| I know this will be a dumb question, but what fitting works with the new tuff-trail trailers? I have a F150 with a plug-in that is 7way flat. The trailer is a 5 prong, that is 4 exposed, 1 incased in plastic. I would assume all Tuffy trailers are the same? I found a 7 to 5 fitting, but the lights don't light up. |

| The Tuff-Trail plug is a standard plug, with the 5th prong being the back-up lights, which triggers the electronic surge brake release so you can back up the trailer. |

Location: Rockford MN | If you have a Fleet Fram or even an auto parts store close by, they should have a Hopkins adapter that will fit. You will need the 7 to 5 adapter. If your lighting still does'nt work, you will need to start testing the connections at the rear of the truck. It might be as simple as a lose connection in the wiring harness behind the plug. If you still can't figure it out, I would just take it to a local service shop and have them test everything. |

| Possible fuse under the hood is blown. Testing is the only way to figure this one out. |

| Make sure you get the relay to energize the back up light/brake release, makes it alot easier to back up. Goes under the hood in the fuse/relay box |

this is a very likely reason for the problem you're having.
on Ford F150's the relays are not factory installed in the fuse box (the one under the hood, not the one inside the cab).
check your relay box, and if necessary get the brake relays and install them. if you're unsure what it is, just ask your local Ford dealer about the brake relays and they should know exactly what you're talking about and if you talk real nice they might give you a couple just for the asking.

| Thanks guys, it somehow now works? I started moving the plug around and now it works! I better check under the hood for that relay you mentioned. It seems to back up fine. So this trailer comes from the factory with surge brakes? I wasn't sure about that. What happens if the relay is not installed? Will it do harm to the the trailer/tires/vehicle? |

| Depends on which trailer you have? All dual axles come with brakes. The 1760 single axle trailers on down do not. Since you have a 5 pin plug I assumed there were brakes on the trailer. |

I found that when I back up my drive way which is at a incline the brakes would come on.

| This trailer is a 1760 single axle so I'm guessing it does not have brakes. Plus, I haven't seen any of the hardware near the connection that would indicate brakes. As for the relay, it appears to be installed in my fuse box under the hood. |
