For example, I would change waypoint "001" to "05 17 04 Crappie" if I caught crappie in that spot on May 17, 2004. That way it served as a mini log. I knew to look for them in that spot in may. Now that I am starting to use the "find" function... I am thinking that I should go back and rename the waypoints to the body of water.. like "BC 05 17 04 Crappie" so that the different lake waypoints dont sort together. I'm interested in how you GPS manage your waypoints.... What kind of names (if any) do you assign to them? Dave Dave. Mine get named so I can attach them to an easy memory. Most all are named after clients, friends or events that took place on board or with me during the time we caught enough fish to warrant it's membership entry into my GPS waypoint list. I have names like Larry 1 2 and 3. Betty 1 and Betty 2. Meaning while Betty or Larry were fishing with me, we caught lots of fish trolling beteen those points. And I won't forget Betty, Larry or the fish we caught that day. And I haven't. Simply using numbers (without a written reference list IMV) can be confusing and a poor way to remember why you even marked that spot to begin with. Capt. Dan. Do it now to save yourself hundreds of hours of work later. Take my word for it. It's not fun sitting down organizing later when you have thousands of waypoints to deal with. I try to organize by size then date

Member Posts: 15 | I too like to use a name with something unique about the spot, Jims hump, and I also like to use a code name for the lake so that they will all appear as a group in the listing, example L = Leech, W = Winnie etc.. If Jims hump was on Leech Lake I would then name it, L Jims Hump. I don't do that so much anymore instead I like to save my Waypoints, Icons and Trails to a separate chip for each lake I fish. Lowrance does not support the number of Waypoints and Icons I have. So saving them all to a separate chip was a necessity, but has turned out to simplify my data storage. I save all data at the end of each day. As far as trails go I usually delete all of them before saving, unless it is a very good trolling trail. I will then make a run or two, start a new trail, name it and save it. You don't need a big chip but the smaller ones, 16-32 MB, seem to be harder to find now. On Edit: I was wrong about the availability of the MMC cards. I did a E-bay search for "Sandisk MMC cards". There are a bunch out there, and WAY cheap compared to what I paid... Member Posts: 15 | A follow up on my previous reply................. I should add that when you fish a different lake, you need to delete all Waypoints, Icons and Trails BEFORE loading the data for the lake specific card you are about to fish or it can be a major mess. Just be sure to Save your data at the end of each day. Lowrances' Map Create programs allows you to work with the data on the computer in order to separate individual lake's data. Just upload your MMC card data and save all data to a master file. Then you can go in and look at the locations of the waypoints, on MapCreates Map. You will then need to go through a process of deleting all waypoints except the ones on the individual lake(s). You can then save that lakes' data to a new file and put it on your MMC card. If I remember right the Icons will NOT show up on the programs map but you can list them by latitude and longitude and figure out which ones belong to which lakes. You got all of that? I'm not sure that even I understand everything I know about it...

Member Posts: 104 Location: Laona, Wisconsin | Whenever I save all of the waypoints for a fishing trip, any icons I have placed on points of interest show up on my X15 and X25c units when reloaded. This is after deleting all waypoints, trails and icons and reloading the .usr file.

Member Posts: 15 | Albe, Ya, in my post I was refering to the icons not showing up on MapCreates map. I just checked and I was wrong. They do show up. It has been a few years since I used the program. Sorry for the confusion.

Member Posts: 279 Location: Rockford MN | With the chips of today, It is rare for me to ever save any waypoints. I just use a log on waters I seldom fish and remember the areas of the waters I fish alot. I will enter waypoints at events, these are simply to give to my patners (the numbers of trails or trolling runs) Other than that I see no need to put a bunch of way points on my units. I just use the maps and check the same areas upon returning to a body of water.
