New User Posts: 3 | I have a 1850 Tyee that I bought last summer & unfortunately it didn't come with a trolling motor. I fish lakes & the Missouri river - a lot of windy days. Should I get a bow mount electric or a kicker? I'd like to get both but I'm only going to be able to afford one this year. Thanks a lot for your help.

Member Posts: 116 | I'm not a tournament guy that fishes for a living so take this with a grain of salt as I will readily admit that there are others that have forgotten more than I will ever know but I'm thinking you will do better with a bow mount. I have been trolling since 1994 with only my bow mount on an 18' Pro V. There are a couple situations like over 2 mph or into huge waves where this won't work but for 99.9% of the trolling I do I depend on and love my Minn Kota Autopilot! I get a good 6 hours out of my Trojan series 31's wired for 24 volts. Just another thought process to consider.

I have a 619 Ranger with a 65lb Autopilot & Co-Pilot Remote control. I use it a lot for trolling. You probably won't need the Autopilot but at least get the Powerdrive version w/remote. If I use the Auto feature once a year I'm lucky. You should be able to get one for about $900 with Co-Pilot Good Luck, Pat & Christy

New User Posts: 3 | Thanks guys! You really helped me make up my mind. It sounds like I may not even need a kicker. I think I'll go with an 80 PD w/co-pilot. Do I need auto-pilot? Does it control speed & direction?

The electric motor will not get you home if the big motor goes out and fishing big water like the Missouri river and its flowages you will need to cover a lot of water some times. Unless you do a lot of fan casting, go with the kicker. You can backtroll which is better for postion fishing anyways. Good luck, Doug

New User Posts: 3 | Why not get both a bow mount and a kicker to cover all of the bases
