Do any of you guys have a Yamaha motor mounted on your tuffy...just curious...I really like the Yamaha motor and I like the older style (2002-2003) 1700 or 1760 Esox Deep V Tillers better than the new ones but would want a Yamaha 4-stroke 50EFI or 60EFI instead of a mercury 2 stroke that is on the boat I have my eye on...just curious...

There are definitely Tuffys with Yamahas out there. Not a ton of them but they are out there.

Right here, A 2006 1760 with a F150. I would trade that motor for anything in the world. But you are right, there are not very many tuffy's out there with yammy's on the back, but i would hightly reccomend putting one on the back of yours!

i was running a 70hp Suzuki 4-stroke on a 1760 tiller last year.

it performed very well when trolling (as slow as 2mph) or running high speed (32mph).
the one limitation was that it didn't have a lot of low-end power - something that's generally true of 4-strokes in comparison to 2-strokes.

in the case of a tiller boat running a smaller motor, this means that at times depending on load, humidity, etc., i didn't have enough "ooomph" to get up on plane in what i felt was a reasonable amount of time. it was great when i was alone, but add a full tank of gas, rear livewell full of water/suckers, and a second guy on a hot humid day and it could be tough to motivate it up out of the water.

the 1700 and 1760 tillers have been running Mercury 2-strokes/Optimax motors for a long time and they perform quite nicely in this "get up and go" aspect, as they've got more low-end power.

i can't speak to the Yamaha motors per se, just the Suzuki, but it's something to think about when considering a 4-stroke tiller.
