| Currently have an LMS480. I am looking at either getting a new HDS-5 gen 2 or a lightly used LCX-38C for around the same money. I was wondering opinions. I think I would like the larger screen of the LCX, but was wondering if the HDS is that much better. It's not in my budget to get a larger HDS. Looking for some input as to which way to go. |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | That's the tough one. The HDS units are awesome, but a larger screen is totally awesome as well. If it were I, I'd save a bit more and get a HDS-7 and make the LMS-480 work for now. The other option is trying to find a Gen 1 HDS unit that has been slightly used. If you ever need any service work done, the LCX unit won't be able to be serviced because of the age of the unit.
This is what I'd look to do. If I had to pick one, I'd probably lean towards the LCX-38. |

Location: Manitowoc WI | If you dont have a second unit u will need the 38c. Its very tough getting by split screen with a screen less then 7 inch.
Just my opinion! U could run a seprate map unit. its nice having a couple. |

| I absolutely love my x-38...if you take good care of your units you will have zero issues! The real question is how well did the other guy take care of the unit...i.e. did he trailor his boat with unit attatched?? Keep it indoors or out under a boat cover in 95 degree heat to cook for days on end?? Stuff like that! No exceptions for a larger screen....except larger! |
