Member Posts: 160 Location: Menasha, WI | What do you all think it is going to take to win this tourney this weekend? I am thinking about 37 pounds for the two day event. Remember, they are only weighing five fish each day.

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Looks like Axl may be closer than the rest of us. 17.39 for first after day one. You need to go all the way down to 23rd place to see 12.5 pounds. Great tournament, wish I were there. Frequent contributor, Jim Ordway is in 5th place. Keep it going Jim. Biggest fish on Saturday weighed 7.39 Lbs. Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | I was out this morning checking on all my boys. The conditions have changed quite a bit where a couple guys in the top 5 are fishing. My buddy is leading it right now and hopefully he has another great day today. Watch out for Mark O and his dad to make a huge move today. I bet they finish in the top 20. From what I saw, the weights will be down today and whoever keeps their head in the game will win this. Tim Winchester and his dad are in third and are on a great bite. I would not be surprised at all to see them win this. It sure does suck to be on the sidelines don't it CHRIS M????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Thanks for the update on the Merc Rich S. I concur...It does suck to be on the sidelines.....even if it's in elk country Colorado (archery starts Aug. 25, but who cares - it's walleye time!!) - At least we have a forum like WalleyeFirst to debate the ins and outs of the merc and other tourneys....it can make us feel like we're all most there, even from 1000 miles away.... can't wait to get back to WI this tuesday to gear up for the O.S. You've got to be looking at +/- 30 lbs to take this one home.... good luck to all. | |||

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | Tyler, I think 30lbs is almost right on. I told Rob he would need 14lbs to win and I hope he gets it. With the weights so tight right now, anybody in the top 50 have a legitimate chance to win this. 20lbs can happen with these conditions and I bet someone from the bottom 150 get a basket that size. I can't wait until weigh-in.

| Hey Rich, I'm glued to my computer here to see who takes this one to the bank. There are some really good fisherman in the top 65 with extensive histories on the big "W". Schwarz/Wilkens, Howard/Geiger, the Winchester boys, the Baumanns, and Golliher/Robl are tough teams every year... my money says top 20 for them all... maybe more....Just a guess here, but if history is any teacher, these guys will be strong contenders when all is said and done. My suspicion is that some of the top 10 will fall off today.... usually 1/2 of them go up and half of them go down on day 2, and there are some new names up there (at least I'm not familiar with them all). You're right on with Rob T. needing 14 lbs to take it. If he rolls in with 10 lbs, he'll still be top 10, but nobody will touch him if he's in the 14 - 15 range. Can't believe that 21.67 won it last year. Just goes to show you how the lake / conditions change year to year. When you think you've got a pattern nailed, it goes away and you've got to adapt.... I suppose that challenge of adapting is what makes this a great sport! I'm supposed to be working here, but I've got walleye are on the brain!! | |||

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | I talked with Rob T at 12:30 and he had a 15"er and a 21"er. Still plenty of time to pull it off. I am leaving for the weigh-in now.

| Hey rich, no use of cell phones for contestants..... Why take the chance if your in it???????? | |||

| Rich, How did you talk to Rob T at 12:30? Cell phones are not to be used during tournament hours. Maybe this is part of the reason I stopped fishing events like this, because not everyone plays fair. I think I will be forwarding this to Jim Coon. | |||

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | Wondering, Sorry to give you that impression. Rob was fishing very close to shore and I was watching him from shore. I could have almost jumped into his boat. Telling someone your fish count is within the rules. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Last I heard, Blaine And Chris were leading and looks like they were going to take it. Should be posted very soon.
