Member Posts: 1406 | Got in tonight and heard the somber news about Gary, my heart is saddened and I want to give the credit to him tonight for the great day on the water. We had one of the best ever for these younguns and Scotts biggest walleye to date. We had an excellent bite of large fish again with too many big ones to take home here are a couple and I dedicate them to you Gary. We will cherish the moments we had today as these guys couldn't be any happier about their success and leasons learned! Good Luck and God Bless you and your Family are in our prayers! Member Posts: 160 Location: Menasha, WI | I fished tonight from 4 pm until dark on Bago, and we had little luck on the rocks. We then decided to do something we never have done and that was jig the mud. We set up in front of Faro Springs Road, about 2 miles out, and used 3/8 oz jigs tipped with both leeches and crawlers, well we had little luck so we motored back into the crowd and switched over to drifting with little cleos tipped with crawlers, and we also went old school, and tried the old junebug spinners, and Sparkle Tails. I have never seen one of these tonight, but my buddy had 3 in his box. It was an awesome night after that. We caught a lot of fish including sheeps, whitebass, and walleyes. We did not keep a fish tonight, and it was again awesome. You should have seen the looks we got as we were drifting in the mud flats with a bunch of spinning rods out! The hot bait tonight was a little cleo tipped with a crawler. It was a 1/3 oz little cleo and to set the depth we just cast it out, and set it over the side. No rhyme, no reason, just wanted to do something 100% different then anyone else, and we caught fish!

Member Posts: 1406 | "Should have seen the looks we got". Doesn't surprise me. I'm sure you weren't in the middle of all the trollers now were you? or do you take a anchor to a drift bite in the river? FYI, Thats not a look of surprise but one of anger and disdain. Were you in that bright new Tuffy? sounds like a great way to make friends. Good luck Tyee

| When i thought i had heard it all..... Well axl at least you established a new all time low for everyone that ends up reading this. And as Tyee said, for the love of god stay out of people's way if you are going to do something as ridiculous as jig the mud. | |||

| Thinkin outside the box Axl. I like that. Boy them trollers are liable to run right over you in spite of their boating rules knowledge. Seen lots of jiggers on the bay last weekend. Don't think they were in "anybody's way". | |||

Member Posts: 617 Location: Oshkosh, Wisconsin | Why all the hostility towards Axl? Last time I checked, there was plenty of room on 'bago for everyone to fish the way they wanted to. BTW, if he's drifting, its the TROLLERS that have to stay out of his way, not the other way around. Edited by Brad B 6/13/2007 12:08 PM

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | Not trying to take sides but if a guy is drifting and is not pulling boards, how much of a inconvienence can he be? I would think if he was one of the guys that likes to pull against the wind he would be more of a problem. I can see anchoring but drifting? Someone clue me in.

Member Posts: 3899 | I troll on the reefs, why can't somebody jig in the mud? Sheesh. I had a charter captain on Lake Erie tell me 15 years ago you could not jig on that Lake. You'll never catch a walleye, ever. Well, the next year I went out with some coworkers, and just to prove a point, while they were tossing Erie Dearies, I decided to jig fish. I opened a can of whupass on them, like they'd never seen! Anyway, why would somebody get upset, if someone was drifting out in the mud? Alter your course, and deal with it. Now, if someone was to set down right in front of you, that might be a different story. Tyee, and Slipknot, sorry, but you're both wrong on this one. Edited by Shep 6/13/2007 12:19 PM

Member Posts: 625 Location: LaCrosse, WI | I can handle someone drifting on the mud. What I can't handle though is somebody trolling a spread of boards 200' wide in a 205' wide river channel. We have the same issues on the Mississippi, we'll have guys drift a 19' boat sideways down a 20' wide slough. I usually don't care what others are doing, I just wish they had the decency to let other boats through. Remember, the trollers are trolling in an area for a reason. It's probably the same reason that AXL was there. It doesn't really make much sense to try new tactics where there are no fish. So the mud makes pretty good sense to me.

| Well if i just wanted to randomly pull baits around with mediocre success in random areas like most of you, it wouldn't be a big deal at all, but seeing as how HE SIAD he pulled into the pack of boats and started doing this, he deserves the blastings. And shep, maybe once you get some experience in the walleye world you'll realize how ridiculous this is | |||

Member Posts: 1406 | Sorry Shep I'm not wrong, and I apologize if I came off harsh, it wasn't the intention, just commented on the "looks". I never said there was anything wrong with it just probably looks of anger and disdain! You need to fish the Wolf more in the spring and maybe you'll understand my comment! What I do take exception to is the idiots I saw last night going in circles with the bow mount down casting in a particular area in the mud that had big fish in it. (You know that small spot less than a few hundred feet) Everytime I approached it, (I would always pick up and go back over it from the same direction) he would turn his boat to push me away! My boys were casting from the deck killing fish too but my boat was always going in one direction, the yahoo I had on top of me wasn't pulling boards and as I approached you couldn't tell where he was going, one minute it was with the wind and ten seconds later it was right at me, he even had the gall to confront me. I corrected him as politely as I could as to who has the right of way! He WAS under power and able to position his boat! He was not a drifter dragging crawlers on cane poles as some do! There are thousands of acres to pitch or jig in the mud? WHY in the heck would anyone do it in a pack of trollers?????? Nothing wrong with it as you have the right to fish where you want and any way you want, I'm just saying that you aren't making any friends by doing it. There are enough yahoos out there. I'm not saying this is what you did Axl, and I would think a person representing companies in this industry would consider their image before creating conflict regarding "the looks you get". Good luck Tyee Edited by tyee 6/13/2007 1:36 PM

Member Posts: 1656 | Wow! Descension among the WF ranks..... I have seen guys anchored in the mud jigging/bobbering for perch. Politley go around, it's not an issue. On the other hand if a guy is on his bow mount, fireing out "warning shots" towards the trollers....well that's an entirely different matter. It sounds like what happened is somewhere's between the two. Can't we all just get along?

Member Posts: 3899 | Well first of all, please post your vast experience, Slipknot. Brad started, but it seems that is all there is. Just want to know how much I need to forget to get to your level. Tyee, if someone was deliberately putting his boat in your way, and threatening you, then he was wrong. And I do not blame you for being upset. However, you made it sound like Axl was this character. He wasn't afterall, as it turns out. Saturday we had been running a path on the reefs. A boat plopped itself down right where we had been trolling. We merely went around, asked how they were doing, and continued on our way. No confrontation, no pissing back and forth. Did I wish they hadn't set down there? Sure, but it certainly isn't worth getting worked up over.

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | Hey, I was fishing the Houges tournament a few years back and was fishing a reef edge in north asylum bay. This other tournament boat plops down right next to me and one guys starts fishing. I kept looking over and his partner was just sitting there not doing anything. By this time the wind had switched a bit and they were directly upwind of me. 15 minutes after they pulled in, the guy finally stands up, pulls up his pants and dumps his load into the water (at least he had a good excuse for not fishing). Then they pull up anchor and leave. Let me tell you, the wind could not blow hard enough. It was touch and go for a couple minutes but soon all was out of sight and smell. Thank god we ended up cashing a check from that spot to make it worth while. The moral of the story.....NOTHING is worse then a guy dumping on your spot. That was the first thing I learned and the second is don't ever fish with Mark O after he has eatem black licorish!

| Axl, You are a very smart person for slippin in the mud. I've numerous times have suggested this idea to my partner. The fish are there why not work them a different way. It is no different than a reef. So for all of you guys shunning a creative fisherman you can go #$&@ yourselfs, because the way I see it if it isn't a mud bite you can't catch fish.. If you are in the way of people so be it the last time I checked nobody owns the lake. If people have a beef with slippin in the mud than they should stay at home. True fisherman are creative, not followers. | |||

| Lots of testosterone showing in this thread. You can just feel the luv Must be a difficult tournament season. For the record ............ A guy's tournament record on the FLW doesn't indicate his longevity, manhhood or fishing ability as a whole.. Right Shep? Axl did nothing Wrong. He had every right to do what he did........ period | |||

Member Posts: 3899 | Testy, you are correct. I am having a tough year so far in the league, some of which is my doing, some of which is the fishes fault., and the other is just bad luck I guess. But we are in the hunt for a good finish in the MWS standings. But then again, I'm not the one shooting off my mouth about how great I am, while everyone else is just aimlessly wandering around while fishing.
