Hit the water bright and early this morning. Conditions allowed for my small craft to head to the mud, so I headed NE of Stevens Reef and worked back towards Neenah. First line in the water at 5:30, first board went back at 5:33, first eye in the boat at 5:35. It was fairly steady action on the first pass, so I looped around for 2 more passes after that with a total of 14 eyes in that area by 9am - five under 15", six between 16-19", and 3 between 20"-22". Crawler harnesses, 1/4 oz, 45'-50" back, 1.2mph, #5 Metallic Purple Tommy Harris Blades took all the bigger fish. I got one 17" eye on Gulp natural colored crawlers on a Northland Firetiger Holographic blade, the others were caught on a variety of harnesses all through the water column with a lot of whities up high.

At 9 the waves got a little bigger so I put on the cranks to work my way back towards Jefferson but there was too much salad so I quickly pulled lines and headed to the north shore out from Waverly. Drifted harnesses again along a 12'-14' break with 3 more 15" eyes, a crappie, a few nice perch, and the BIGGEST sheephead I've caught to date. At first I thought the sheep was a monster eye, then it started running like crazy so I thought I had a big smallie, then disappointment -- it was really fun to fight though.

After I went through the 4 dozen crawlers I brought with, I headed home about 10:30 and my boys made me coffee and breakfast. About as good as Father's Day gets.

Komo, looked for you out there, but I was pretty much alone for most of the morning. Hope you did well to.

Edited to add: I also had quite an adventure with one of my little yellow helpers, but I'll save that for support group thread.

Trolled the mud today with cranks and harnesses. For the first 2 hours we pulled cranks 2 miles out of calumet county park with only 1 15" fish. There were way too many weeds. Moved a little farther North and nothing. Made a move south and started catching them on harnesses with 1oz and 1/2oz. Had one triple a 16",20", and a 23"er. Ended the day around 11 am with 20-30 fish and 3 fish over 20" with the biggest at 23 and a 19 3/4 with many 15-18. Caught throughout the water column.

Yep, I was making my way over there, but found a good bite 3 miles outside of pipe. First for few hours, biggest eye was 19' inches. Harnesses in darker colors seemed to work best for me. Pulled out at 900am to pick up the wife and boy. Weather was nice, although when the rain came we skee daddled back to shore. We trolled harnesses for an hour or so, with one small walleye. Switched to cranks as the wind picked up and got 5 fish really quick. 2 fat saugers. (Tells me I was running my baits too deep, if there is such a thing). The 6yo got his new 2007 record fish, 18.5 on deep jr thunderstick in silver/blue. He brought all the fish in. Was nice.

New record for the 6yo (personal best). Deep Jr Thunderstick silver with blue stripe 60 back in the mud 3 miles out of pipe. He was exhausted!! Nice cocky grin, the little sheet. We were trolling harnesses and not getting the response we wanted. I say "pick a crank". He said silver with blue. "Always works on winnebago".

Good post, Viking. I was on the same school on Friday morning. Used Tsticks & Shad raps, mostly silver/blue or silver green 25 to 50 feet back, trolling 2mph. Caught 20 walleyes up to 20" in about 4 hours, kept 15 for 3 people.

Wanted to leave the Otter Street guys alone, so Lauren and I headed off to Poygan to see if we could catch a few eaters. Well, we set down at 8:15, and before we had three lures in the water, we had our first fish on. I don't know if we ever got 6 boards out, as the walleyes, and gars, were going nuts. We fished for about 4 hours, the last two, with 8 in the box, and threw back probably 20 fish, until it was time to go. We kept the last two, and will have a couple great meals. All told, I think we threw back at least 10 fish over twenty inches, including Lauren's best at 25 1/4"! She did a better job reeling and netting than one of my coanglers this year!

Then we went to see Eric play in the championship of the Greenville Classic Baseball tourney, and they beat Appleton North, 10-7. Eric had a good game, pitched well, hit for 4 RBI's, and threw out a runner at home to complete a double play and end the inning. In-law's were there to watch, and we feasted at Applebees.

What a great Father's day I had.

Chicken was great. 3 wings on sat, 4 wings on Sunday. Heckuva of a breakfast sandwich too. And, open at 500Am right on the head.

Maybe I will have to start tailpiping Shep. Get my boy a GREAT record.

I am happy to spend an hour or so on the boat with him. After that the ADD and ants in the pants kicks in and we go.

Yup, Lauren's smiles say it all. One of the best days I can remember.

Plus, I was able to help the Keenan's get on the fish. One of the few times I can say that!

On big fish she did, but then that is nothing new this year. Everybody has been kicking it! Cept at the Menomonie MWS.

She devised a good system. Board goes back, I reel in until the board is to the boat. She takes the rod, and I take off the board. She reels in the fish, and tells me to net it. I take off the hook, measure the fish, stow the net, reset the line, and she drinks pop, and eats snacks. I clean the boat, pay for the gas, put away the boat and tackle, clean and cook the fish, and she tells everyone what a great daddy she has.

I wouldn't have it any other way!

What an absolutely up-lifting experience to read this thread. I barely miss not being on the water when I can read about fishing with some great good natured humor interjected and then topped off with heart warming stories and pictures of father/child outings. There sure is a lot of good going on in our world!!!!
