I've zeroed in on the favorite 2 flavors/colors these Saginaw Bay walleyes like (Makeral and Sardine) and today I switched all 8 rods over to that program. We boated about 20 and kept a 3 man limit. The really neat part was how we caught some of the more timid walleyes that hit them. They would come up and slap or half take the gulp shad, and we could see the hit on the ruber bands I use. We would then snap the line out of the release and let it fall back away from the others and WHAM they'd slam it while right in your hands. Most all were in that 15 to 17 inch range with one bigger one lost behind the boat. But it was most excellent. Edited by walleye express 7/5/2007 3:01 PM Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Member Posts: 40 Location: Kaukauna WI | Captain Dan......couple thoughts. Really like the looks of that rig on the other thread. Was wondering though if the first whack you describe in this post would be the fish hitting the spoon attractor, as it is situated quite far ahead of the bait with hooks. Then when you drop back, they home in on the Gulp!. What if a guy would slip a single hook on the first split ring of the spoon and let that flop around and see if it hooks something. I don't think it would hurt the action. Also wondering why you use bead chain before and after the spoon? Thanks.

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | I experimented for quit a while with this configuration. I wanted a spoon rig I could use live bait on and be able to troll at higher speeds so I could use both live bait and cranks at the same time. Everything I tried ended up spinning at higher speeds or twisting the line at some point, even using just one bead swivel on the front. But using beaded swivels at both the front and back of the spoon free's it up to flip and flash at all speeds and keeps whatever offering on it quit independent from flipping around itself. You'd be amazed that when using the gulp minnow, that it stays straight in the water wagging it's tail, but the spoon still flips back and forth ahead of the offering flashing each of it's 2 sides. And to answer your other question. I'd be afraid to add anything like a small hook to the spoon that might spoil this action. Edited by walleye express 7/6/2007 3:34 AM

Hey Capt. Dan, Nice looking rig, sounds and looks a whole bunch like our stuff here at Eyeliminator Trolling Systems. Except we run a complete harness behind both the large magnum version, and the smaller "pro series" mini eyes. We also, do much better running our rigs at the higher speeds, which makes it nice if you do want to run them with cranks. Tommy Harris has really put together some awesome color combo's for us, and a nice strong finish on the blades and spoons that will NOT chip or peel. Makes for a overall very nice, long lasting rig that will take a beating and come back for more! Success on Saginaw Bay has been unbelievable this year for us also, many, many limits have fallen victim to the Eyeliminator, along with some very nice fish lately, as I'm sure they have for you and, your rigs. It's just great to get out there, and be able to enjoy such a fantastic fishery. Wishing you continued success, Jim

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Thank's Jim. Having Tommy do both the spoons and blades in a one of his color scheme packages has gotta be wild. I cannot wait to see some of these masterpieces. As you know, the spoon concept as an attractor has been around a lot longer then many people realize on the Saginaw Bay. Using them as the main lure not as long. Some think this is a new idea, but I remember years ago trolling a Big GW spoon behind a barrel swivel and 1 ounce egg sinker fallowed by a crawler harness. That rig along with full size Thunder Sticks won us 3rd place in the Caseville and 4th place in the Standish tourneys when Mike Avery started the Saginaw Bay circuit tournaments back in the late 80's. I gotta say though that the last 2 years have been better then ever for spoon or spoon/harness type lures on the Bay. Hard to say rather it's the forage base changes over the years or the shear mass of hungry fish after 4 years of great natural reproduction. But like all good things that seldom come your way. Never question success to hard or to often. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by walleye express 7/6/2007 4:33 PM

Yep Dan, Sure did, but what we aim to do is provide a complete rig, or system, so that all a person has to do is hook it up how ever they want, and go fishing. What we found is that most people do not want the hassle of trying to make this stuff on there own. And there wasn't really anything out there on the market like this. Now that we offer the smaller mini eye with mono leaders and still continue with the magnums and there nylostrand leaders, we have covered a lot of needs for a lot of different situations. We have also found the spoon bite has taken off out there. Most of our bigger fish this year have come on the "spider spoon" alone, run on about a 4ft. leader, they just inhale it! Anyway, thanks for the feed back, maybe will run into ya over there one of these days. Take care, Jim
