Started out this morning headed for my spot on the 47's. Seen quit a few boats trolling in a tight group 2 miles SE of the Black Hole but still 4 mile South of my original destination. Slowed the boat down to have a look and the whole screen was full of fish from top to bottom. Put the lines out and started trolling with the waves, NE towards the end spark plug. Again, didn't have so much as a nibble for almost 3 miles until we hit that magic 21FOW. I understand a lot of things about what and why walleyes do some things, but I'm at a loss for this 1 foot difference making so much difference in the fish's biting attitude the last few trips out on a body of water this big. Does anybody have or can share some ideas about this phenomina? Oh , we boated 17 and kept 11 in the short time we were on the biting fish.

What was the water temp ..............?

There could have been a colder/warmer pocket of water in that area. I know there's a few lakes "up north" that I fish that have some springs in them that do that exact thing and it makes a huge differance in my catch rate.

I have to believe that there are some on saginaw bay as well. Last weekend i found some cooler water that I cought fish in on the bay. It was only a 1 or 2 deg diff but it did seem to matter. Just a thought not real sure if it did/does make any sence or not............lol

Oh it makes sense all right. But I Didn't really notice any surface temp difference if there was any. This same thing happened 3 times now. It might be the bottom strata changes from 20 to 21 Feet. This may attract more baitfish or different types that the walleyes are keying on. Still not sure.

I would guess bottom strata..maybe gravel meets mud or some such combo. Scum line? Current? Clarity? Lots of articles on that type of thing. Course I'm in a major walleye slump at the moment so my credibility is lacking.

i too seem to be in a slump but it could relate to current .. there may be something of a natural channel that keeps that a foot deeper than the rest of the mud. and we all know what a little water movement can do to feeding bait fish as well as walleyes.. this is a great concept and brain teaser.. im perfecting as we speak a way to talk to the fish.. its little box im building upstairs in the basement , i need some investors... any takers.. ?

Keep me posted on that Bradley. I have some river migration questions for that first walleye stool pigeon we can get our hands on.

I've been working a hump out on Erie, if you call it that, for two weeks and slammin' the walleye. Goes from a flat of 16FOW up to 13FOW over a 100 yard slope. Same thing. I've been trolling for miles lately on the flats with no luck, but as soon as I hit that slight trasition, it's on!! They're stacked in that first foot of transition and lightly scattered after that. Not to mention the 3-4# smallies flying out of the water with a holospoon and 3-4oz bouncer attached to them. Found my pattern for the near future.
