Shep I've been right here in Green Bay as always. Actually Suamico if you want to be truly accurate. The only drastic change that affects our tournament is how the fish will be released. Since I brought it up that would lead you to believe I was aware of the change. This is not a state wide change. It is being driven locally (NE WI) from my understanding. I have spoken to Jim at length. It appears we have no choice but to look into changing the permit. It still makes no sense to me. I have fished tournaments for 26 years. We handle fish on a boat to boat basis. The fish come out of the livewell into a basket, up to the scale, and in the river they go. Pretty simple. Putting them back into a holding tank and transporting them to a release point makes no sense.

Randy,

Sounds like the new restrictions took you by surprise, very recently. Certainly sounds like you had no idea when you applied for you permit last fall. Tournament change has been discussed at length here since it was first proposed and discussed at DNR meeting back in 2007. It just took this long for the local approving DNR to actually make a big change in the permit as to how your tournament will be conducted.

I don't recall seeing you at any of the DNR public meetings about tournaments in 2007. As a tourney promoter, your input would have been welcomed.

I miss fishing the FRC the past 2 years. Always had a great time, and thought it was well run.

Any updates? Seems like this is about the time I send in my annual donation.

Off a tad, but similar. A few years ago, there was a walleye tournament on Cass lake. After the tournament was over, we counted 71 dead eyes, all really nice size floating. To me this is a total waste. Something needs to be done to keep more fish alive.

Wade,
The entries will be coming out soon. Karl typically mails them out around the first week of March. We are looking forward to another great get together with everyone.

I'm applying the stamps to the entries right now as I sip on a wonderful Leinenkugel's beverage. I should have them in tomorrow's mail. The only way it could be better is if Randy bought the beer!
