Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Wisconsin boaters to hear from wardens this Labor Day weekend Wisconsin conservation wardens and watercraft inspectors will be out in force this Labor Day weekend to remind boaters to clean their vessels and of the consequences they could face if they don’t comply. “There will be a real strong contingent of wardens out to work with the public to make sure their Labor Day holiday is safe and that they’re taking the steps necessary to prevent the spread of invasive species and VHS, a new fish disease,” said Karl Brooks, deputy chief warden of the Department of Natural Resources, in a statement. The wardens will focus on educating boaters about preventing the spread of invasive species, about the law that makes it illegal to launch a boat with plants attached, and about emergency rules in effect to prevent the spread of viral hemorrhagic septicemia, or VHS, from waters where the virus has been confirmed or is suspected to be in fish. Paid and volunteer watercraft inspectors will be stationed at public landings on many popular recreational waters. The DNR has a small corps of watercraft inspectors, and provides grants to a growing number of counties for their watercraft inspection efforts. For more information on aquatic invasive species and what people can do to help prevent their spread, visit the invasive species pages of the DNR Web site, http://dnr.wi.gov/invasives.

Member Posts: 538 | Guys, I really do not see any harm in reinforcing the message. Many boaters are not at all tuned into issues and need some reminders. For the rest of us, it should not be a big deal as we have been aware of the rules and potential problems for sometime now and recognized it is for the good of all. I do agree it is tough to get all the crap from under the boat and trailer bed because of the floating weeds in many of the launches, but then again, that has always been part of the program. Have a good labor day weekend. Jim O

Location: Rhinelander | Most of the commercials you are referring to are PSA segments. Public Service Announcements. the air time is free, but the network can write off the actual value.

Member Posts: 874 Location: Neenah, WI | We launched at Winn. County landing yesterday at about 9:00 and came in around 2:00. Yhere were no DNR people there. It seemed to be mostly fishing boat trailers there. The people who came in at the same time were all draining livewells and cleaning trailers. It's nice to see the compliance.

It might keep some of us who think this whole thing is more trouble and time consuming then it's worth back on track. http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dnr/FishDiseaseControlOrder-FO-24... Member Posts: 31 | Man, this is all going to be a royal pain in the a$$ come this winter. This time of year, it's really not a problem dealing with the minnows since all we carry during the summer are fatheads and redtails, which aren't on the list. In the winter 90% of the minnows we sell are spotails, emeralds, and white suckers - which are on the list. Whoever came up with "form" that we're going to have to fill out with every minnow sale we make, obviously never worked in a busy baitshop before. When guys are lined out the door for bait, and getting 5 to 10 dozen minnows at a crack, like I said, it's going to be a royal pain! We're going to have to record where the minnows came from, where they can be used at, and how many of each species was sold - in duplicate! You and I are both supposed to hang on to our copies for a year afterwards! Edited by THE BAIT SHOP GUY 9/2/2007 9:27 AM

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | It's my thought that you might be able to incorporate the bait and/or inspection numbers data required right into your register and then that transfers on to each sales receipt automatically. Instead of printing your shops information at the top of each receipt your could replace or add it to each one. Maybe I'm wrong. I was in the bait business for 4 years and I know how customers can be when held up for more then a second at 5:00am in the morning. This is something that has to be resolved quickly while given and recieved smoothly by both the dealer and the customer or it isn't going to work to well.
