Member Posts: 591 Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | HOW MUCH PER DAY DOES IT COST YOU TO GO FISHING? FOR REAL ! TRY TO FACTOR IN FUEL AND COST OF OWNERSHIP OR LOSS OF TACKLE OR MAINTANANCE ON GEAR.

Member Posts: 591 Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | i figured20/ trip interest only lost on owning boat set up for big water. 45 (average 50 miles )in fuel between boat and truck 30 for bait ice and soda snacks, launch fee. insurance and ware and tear on gear and boat. 20 estimate 2 trips a week at 115 a trip its 920 without stopping to eat a month . for 8 months out of the year figure 8,000 a year. without too much new gear.

Member Posts: 591 Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | thaught it would be interesting when the state comes up with numbers, some fish out of small boats or from shore some in larger boats.some take long trips or canida , i dint factor in tournaments the few that i do , but for many i know it is more reasonable just seriously thinking about taking up a new hobie when i add it all up.

| I can tell you that it cost between 300-400 per day out on the tour, thats if you figure every expense. Entry-tackle-bait-fuel-food-motel-misc. Fishing is very expensive if you want to do at a high level. Based on a 10 day trip and depending on how far away it is, it costs roughly $4,000 per event when it's all said and done. These of course do NOT include the 35-60 thousand people are spending on boats and motors(loaded up). If you figured that in also (of course most Hope to break even on re-sale) then 50 days worth of tour fishing a year comes to (1000 per day and up to 1600 per day). Of course this also does not include the cost and wear and tear on your truck. God I hate to even figure this stuff out! I'm glad the wife never reads stuff on fishing sites! If I just take the kids out it's about $50-100 a day for fun. | |||

Member Posts: 1656 | This last weekend. I put $56 in the truck to travel to GB and back from just west of Appletown. Put $50 in the boat and spent another $10 on ice, water, a candy bar, and sandwich. Granted I didn't use all the fuel, at the same time, I already had about 7-8 dozen crawlers with, and didn't account for wear and tear/maint. cost. on avg. I'd say it's probably in the $50-$150 range depending on where I travel to fish.

| Jayman, I'm right there with you, I spend about $100 on gas, ice, crawlers, 1 Quick Trip sandwich (Cuban w/pickle), a couple bottles of water and a partial fill on my boat (25+6)=31 Gallons of fuel for each trip to GB. My truck gets a whopping 8mpg pulling my boat. My wife saw that I have 4 tackle boxes of just crankbaits for the Bago system and starting asking questions, I tried to quickly changed the subject, but she brought it back to the cost of gas, there was no way out and I had to fess up. I told her I spend about $30.00 per fishing trip and she told me that I can only go once a week. But then I reminded her that I don't ice fish, smoke, drink and all I do fish for a hobby and that I was providing fish for the family (I give 90% of what I catch away). I actually kept track of my fishing expenses last year, I spent over $7,000 without buying a whole lot of new equipment and it surprised me how expensive a hobby it is. So how do all these guys with the $50,000 Walleye boats afford to fish? I'm not sure it is worth it anymore! Do you guys ask your guest to split the cost of when you invite them to come along? Afraid to tell who | |||

Member Posts: 2567 Location: Manitowoc, WI | I have pretty accurate record keeping for my events the last 7 years, and the per day to fish the FLW or PWT has risen significantly with the rising costs of fuel, travel, lodging, entry fee, and other expenses. I usually take 4-5 days of prefishing for an event and my average cost this year is around $2,700 per event, with the high side being Devils Lake due to the drive. Imagine pulling my boat for 1735 miles and averaging 12.7 mpg diesel.....it's like throwing $3 out the window every 12 miles for the entire trip!!! And that doesn't include boat gas!!! Thank God this last event is only 155 miles from home!!!

" Afraid to tell, I don't expect anything from the guests that I take with other than appreciation. I take a lot of people out in a course of a year. many of these people will show some kind of appreciation in the form of a beer or several or toss me some money for gas or bring the worm...On the contrary, people who just take...take...take..usually don't get invited back after a couple of trips. A lot of it just depends on who it is and the situation.

Member Posts: 591 Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | fall fishing is cheeper,,, went out by myself,, cost me nothing in fuel because i had some in the boat , had crawlers left over in the fridge... a half eaten bag of potato chips in the boat along with some bottled water and a soda.. didnt need any jigs or hooks or anything ,, the avantages of a true fishing machine in stead of a big sparkly show boat is that you have plenty of terminal tack laying around in the glove box and corners of your compartments and floor.. didnt need to spend a dime other than the fee at the ramp,,,, oh and a pack of nails ,,,, its amaising i could eat for a week on what i found for snacks in the boat ,,,, thanks to taking my kids fishing many times this year.. only a small bag of ice to throw my fish on as i am no longer permitted to dive my fish home in the live well full of water(VHS),, when i got home wile i was out fishing i thaught id use my live well for something so i did a load of laundry and dishes wile i was out,,, my wife was pleased and i even mannaged to bring home dinner... i had a bit of a tummy ache ,,, didnt each much dinner... but that pipe chicken salad sandwich i had in the boat was delish..
