Member Posts: 238 | Im just curious what some of you other guys think, but Im not to fond of the idea of a Cass Lake qualifer next year for the FLW. I might be wrong but my reasons, for starters are: Is Cass Lake big enough and have enough Walleyes roaming for 150 boaters to run around for 10 days in a row? What will the tournament be like if that many boats prefish like they would for a tournament on Erie? When the PWT goes there, there is never that many boats. Cass is good sized but its still not that big of a lake. Personally, Im not on the tour. But Im just curious what others have to say, as I think it might be a mistake. I have never fished Cass Lake before in my life, and dont really intend too. Im just a very avid fisherman that loves to watch the action at these big tournaments to see what happens, and I am kind of wondering what will happen at and to Cass Lake. Im not trying to raise any rucuss...But wanted others opinions!!! Thanks guys

Member Posts: 591 Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | all i can say is cass is a great lake to fish. im sure if you make the trip it will become a great location... you will have fun and you will catch fish... better a spot like Cass than one that you may have to run 50 mile to compete..or the tuff bites that can happen anywhere ..depending on weather... Cass is a walleye fishermans lake.. you will have fun and your amitors will have fun and you will catch fish.. who will find the big ones? i guess we will have to wait to find out..

Member Posts: 238 | Im not arguing Brad, but on the same token, if its going to be a "who finds the big ones" tournament why not go to Mille Lacs where there might be room for 150 boats. I gaurantee 150 boats/10 days of practice and tournament pressure Cass Lake will be influenced in one way or another and it wont be good. And I would rather see good fisherman run 50 miles to compete than to watch a tournament where the winner on day 4 catches one Walleye to win because it was the only Walleye that didnt bite on day 1, 2, or 3! I just want a little discussion guys...Lets hear it!

| I vacation at cass that week they will be there...... I"m going to try to get into both events if I can..... I run a Lund so I'll have to wait and see on the last day..... If not I'll be out there catching just as many fish as previous years..... It will be interesting to see the boats from the leauge and tour and all the other tourist's there could realisticaly be 300 boats on the system at any given time.... 100 leaugers 150 tours 50 tourists......... | |||

Member Posts: 238 | Is there plenty of fish??? And will the fishery be hurt by 150 boats for prefishing and all days of the tournaments?

Member Posts: 389 | http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/showreport.html?downum=04003000 According to this, there are plenty of walleye in Cass Lake. They are the second largest number next to perch and right above another one of their food sources, the Tubilee. The number caught for the DNR testing was above the normal range, so it's safe to say there are more walleye than ever before right now. The 150 boats will not be restricted to Cass only, unless that is the only lake accessible by water....is it? So, you need to take that into consideration too. MNWalleyeHunter, You said, "I have never fished there in my entire life", so how would you know what kind of shape Cass Lake is in? Why the doom and gloom? I'm positive the DNR would not have given the FLW a permit for a 100 boat and, 150 boat tournament, respectively, if they felt the fishery would be harmed by it. Just my opinion...I speak for no one else. Juls Edited by Juls_OH 11/5/2007 5:02 AM

Location: Rhinelander | Cass lake is part of a chain of lakes some of which are accessible by water. There's plenty of room, plenty of Walleyes, and it should be a great event.

Member Posts: 538 | During the PWT Super Pro last fall, access was limited in some areas due to low water. There is plenty of structure to fish, but I would fear that having 150 boats vs the 60 or so of the Super Pro, will stack a lot of fisherman on the same areas. It is a very nice area and I hope to get back there some day, but I would not want to fish it with the 150 plus locals on the lake. During the Super Pro, certain areas had lots of traffic. My two cents, Jim O
