| Small mouth bass are very active right now in the New London area. Crank baits and surface baits have been the trick but that will change when the water temp drops. Should be a week of outstanding fishing. PLEASE RELEASE ALL BUT A TROPHY! If you want some fish to eat, spend an hour in the trees catching some crappie. |

What kind of techniques are being used for crappies in the trees? Should the crappies be able to be found throughout the river or is it mainly New London and down? Any help would be appreciated. |

| In the past, I have found crappie from above New London, to the Rat River. Because of the low water, some of the backwater areas don't have enough water to be as good, so many are in the river. I wouldn't over look ANY tree in deep water or in water over 10 feet. Just keep going until you find a tree to yourself. Inside eddies can hold suspended crappie too. A slip bobber, spit shot and small hook are best. In the trees small jigs work well but I like Lindy No-Snagg Timb'r Rock jigs or Lindy No-Snagg hooks fished right down in the trees. I like to sit as close to the tree as possible and use a telescopic rod for reach and my jig stick close to the boat. I just drop the jig and wait for a bite, trying to remember to "guide" the fish out rather then pull them out. Wish I had time to do it more. Instead of the "No-Snag", some will use a small jig and strong enough line to bend the hook out and get it back. Small fat heads, the livelier the better.

| There are no maps with depths and contours if that is what you are looking for. I have a VERY few maps left that were printed on waterproof paper. It shows the river from Lake Poygan to New London, along with a bit of narrative.

| Had some fantastic bass action as of yesterday. Nice smallies had to work a little deeper water for them.....12 to 17inchers  |
