Location: Winneconie | Boys it finally happened. Left the south shore at 6:30 in the AM. Got to my spot and preceded to put three plump, walters on the ice. Biggest one was 16.5 inches smallest 13. Biggest fish was caught on a Silver Sweden Pimple with a custom hook setup. The last two were caught on hand painted jiggin raps. All fish were also caught with out the aid of any of thos fancy fish locating devices. Ice thickness was 12-14 everywere. 6 1/2 feet of water. Get away from the crowds and it will happen for you.  |

| The boys and I went out from Fresh Air for 2.5 hours this afternoon, only 1 flag all day. Marked very few fish jigging. There were quite a few vehicles straight south of the landing so we went due east. We walked (I'm still not confident with the ice) so we weren't mobile enough to move around. Found a nice break from 11' to 13' that I thought should produce but, alas, nothing. Hittin' a different spot solo in the morning -- hopefully something will be there. |

| We fished Poygan this morning mainly around the shoe. I think we wound up with about 24 whitebass but no Walleyes. Way too much traffic but we did have about 16" of ice. Waxworms and spoons for the bass about 6" off bottom mostly. |

Location: Winneconie | Not a good day for the hammer today. Left the south shore a 6:55 A.M. in the fog. Took a compass reading on which way to go. Went about quarter mile and spilled the minnow bucket off the four wheeler. Lucky for me that the minnows were swimming around in the water on the ice. A couple got away. I finally got to my spot and the auger wouldn"t start. I just kept pulling on it and it finally started. I was drilling my first hole and had just hit water when the powerhead broke off of the auger and the auger sank to the bottom of the lake. Well most people would have called it a day at that point, but not me. I figured I would just fish in that hole. So i got my jig pole out and the handle fell of the reel and I couldn't find the nut that holds it on. So its back to shore. I think I'll go to fleet farm and get some gear and then wait for Woodeyes to open for a beer.

Location: Oshkosh, WI | After reading pretty good reports here and elsewhere, I skipped out of work early on Friday and went to Poygan. Afraid to just strike out on my own, I fished on the outer fringe of the folks crowded in Horseshoe and caught one small white bass and one itty bitty walleye. On Saturday, I did the same thing over again... moving a bit further east and west. Caught two white bass and an itty bitty perch, one on a tip up, one on a chartruse jig/minnow. My swedish pimple and jiggin rapala were unproductive - which happens to me far too often. I saw few flags and little running and no tell tale jiggers catching much outside.
So... I was not in the crowd, which may have still been producing some fish, yet I was not bold enough to drive a mile away. Next time, does anyone have suggestions about what I should do differently?
All suggestions welcomed. |

I don't have any suggestions but on Friday afternoon I am going to try an old spot that has produced well in the past. I'm done at noon. If you can skip out again this Friday we could leave right from work. |
