Member Posts: 1656 | Anybody else here on WF get that strange twinkle in their eye about this time of year? 2 days to go, crystal clear water is giong to make for a fast year.......I can't wait to see one of them oversize "vaccum cleaners" come through my hole. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to add after this weekend.

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | I'll be out there again just like every other year. This year we are trying the east shore though so hopefully "Sturgeon Capital of the World" is good to us! Jayman- We're leaving uncle Mike on the north shore by himself this year so we'll see if he continues his luck from last year. Water is clear everywhere we've been this year, I'm guessing 5 days max, could be as short as 3. Edited by Mr. Darboy 2/7/2008 10:07 AM

Member Posts: 744 | Please make sure you guys mark them holes good. Keep in mind we have warm temps coming next week so things are not going to freeze up well for a while. Make sure the stakes are secure so they stay up and visible. Dave S

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | No luck for me today off the east shore. Younger brother missed a 40# around 8:45, then at 10:30 he had a chance to redeem himself and missed a 60# or better! Guess I'd rather not see any than have his luck ![]() Will try it tomorrow, sounds like it's going to be a beautiful day!

Member Posts: 6 Location: Fond du Lac, WI | Wow, The number of Sturgeon taken today was amazing. Water clarity is really good, and some guys told me they could see a coin on the bottom in 17 foot of water. Some pictures from the weigh in areas can be found at www.myfishingpartner.com Big fish of the day was just over 160 pounds. Edited by schram24 2/9/2008 7:43 PM

What kind of spears are those, are they two piece?? Do the heads come off or something. In MN our pike spears are one piece, almost like a pitchfork. What do you use to decoy them in. Looks very cool!

Member Posts: 1656 | Yep, I stuck one, Denny. B420, yes, our spears are 2 piece and much more heavy duty than the ones I've seen for pike spears. Almost all the spears around the Lake Winnebago area are "custom" made. Built in one's garage or by a friend/relative. Mine were built by, well known, Wayne Engle. He's since retired from making spears. So they are custom classic's in my opinion. Decoys, we use anything and everything. I have 2 decoys that are carved out of wood and painted and weighted with lead. One was made by my friend Charlie Blish, and has been my "hot" decoy since I got it. The other is hand carved, but I'm not sure by who since I bought it at a local watering hole. Edited by Jayman 2/11/2008 2:58 PM

Member Posts: 3899 | I bet he got it right after I called to check in Saturday morning! Congrats, Jayman! That is a nice one! Maybe next year I will sit in someone's shack and check it out. It's been nearly 40 years since I did that! I think it was fun. Edited by Shep 2/11/2008 3:30 PM

Member Posts: 6 Location: Fond du Lac, WI | Looks like they are closing in on the pre-set harvest limits. 480 adult females registered now on a quota of 500. 182 sturgeon taken Monday. Some more pictures are posted from opening weekend at www.myfishingpartner.com including a 151 pounder. Check it out.. Happy spearing.

Member Posts: 160 Location: Menasha, WI | Jayman, Those are some great pics, thanks for sharing. Although I do not spear I did have the opportunity to interview one of the Sturgeon Hunters for my radio show. I thought all you sturgeon hunters might enjoy it.
