Fishing was ok. Found some perch yesterday. Took a little sorting. Found some more today. 2 miles off fisherman and 3 miles off pipe. Ice is excellent. Bridge at Brothertown.

Had dinner at fishermans cove last night. Very nice menu, good prices and great service. Great steak sandwich, with guyere cheese and garlic sauce. Great chicken fingers for the boy. Breakfast was Lakeside Restaurant, near stockbridge. Excellent skillet and the best darn pork sauseeges I ever tried. Pipe chicken, of course, for lunch.

Ran into Kevin B. says he's looking forward to the MWC on the Illinois. Beautiful on the ice. 7yo enjoyed himself. Talked to some great folks and had some fun.

All fish on stealth tactic. One glow hook, one glow splitshot, and one slip bobber. Minnnows hooked in tail lightly, or through lips. Fish slammed all baits. Tried tip ups, but got skinned a few times without tripping the flag. About 15 FOW. Nothing huge, but fat ones in the 9 to 10 inch range. Many thanks to Brad B. for pointin me in the right direction.

Seen folks using what seemed like either a tip down or wind tip up. Are those common on bago?

Nice pic Mark. Yes, the old "windjammer" style is still popular on Bago. Used to be the big walleye tip up out there, but now most guys are going with the underwater styles.

Interesting that they didn't touch the tip ups, off CCP lately that's all we are getting them on, won't touch the jig sticks...

Yep, strange. Couple of my tip up were baitless unpon check. Maybe user error?

komo,

A couple of things may help avoid the bait strippers: 1) Make sure your tension is as loose as possible. It depends on the brand of tip-up you've got, but most have a nut/spring system at the top of the shaft. 2) Use small hooks; I run #16 treble hooks on my perch tip-ups.

As Mr. Darboy points out, the windjammers are relatively popular on Bago. I have one but rarely use it. It doesn't seem to outperform the standard tip-up and, with the reel out of the water, it freezes quite easily. I do, however, almost always have one of my jig rods set up on a tip-down.

Mark,

You and I need to do a day of Walleye fishing on the bay of Green Bay... because I found the best chicken I have ever eaten... Marinated and then pressure cooked with Garlic Mash Potatos and a thick slice of homemade bread... at a GAS STATION right off the boat landing in Suamico. If I lived near the place, I'd be a record weight human in less than a year!

Mark,

It's on the West side of the Highway and it's got a train that runs all the way around the inside... your boy would love the way the place is layed out.
