| I am thinking of making my own jigs and am wondering what is the best way to finish them. Is it better to paint them or dip them in powder? How do you harden them? thanks for any help, tr |

| Powder is better and easier. Cure them in the oven according to the directions on the package. It's like 10-15 min. @ 350 degrees. Be sure to clean the hook eyes out before curing and paint any eyes on the jigs only afterwards. |

| Use ink, holds up much better than any paint/powder I have found. although don't spill it on the counter top you'll be buyin the wife a new one!

| go with powder, I use protech for my spinnerbaits. All you do is heat the lead, dip it in the powder then bake 15 min. Comes out nice and hard. You can go to www.tjstackle.com and they had videos on powder painting.

| WHAT TYPE OF INK DO YOU USE?I HAVE FOUND WITH POWDER PAINT IF YOU 2 TONE THEM THAN CURE THEM THE TOP COLOR WILL RUN OFF BASE COLOR.
HAS ANY ONE ELESE RAN INTO THIS? |

A few factors if you're making them for personal use. Weight of jig and where your fishing it, your time, and how many do you lose?
Generally, powder is fine for lighter jigs. Anything over 5/8 I'd use vinyl and a clearcoat. That is unless, you're fishing soft bottom all the time. Then powder should work on any. But, if your fishing something like the Detroit River with tons of rocks structure, anything over 3/8 usually needs vinyl for any kind of durability, then again, something to think about is that most people burn through a dozen or more in any given day there. Like I said, it depends. |
