The walleyes are now pretty much done spawning and are on the way back to Bago. The area in and around Partridge Lake is doing well near the wall bouncing jigs with shiners, and so was the area between the bridges in Fremont.

I have not heard much from the Mouth of the Rat River. I will be up this way in the next few days, and will find out for myself, I guess. This area has always produced fish for me. I really like to bounce 1/4 ounce powder Blue jigs here with a small stinger hook on them in this area, tipped with a shiner or a small piece of crawler or leech.

The Winneconne Bridge is really hit and miss right now. Some are reporting doing well with River rigs and others claim to be doing nothing. I really like to pump flies here against the current with my bow mount, or use a Scootchie rig on a river rig along the bottom.

Lake Poygan should start to heat up this weekend as the fish will stage here for a few days. I would suggest trolling either harnesses, cranks or Scootchie Rigs, and go slow. Too many times, people wanna troll at 2.0, but this time of year you need to slow down and let the fish see your presentation real well. I will be doing some trolling this week in Lake Winneconne, Poygan, and probably Butte Des Mortes as we prepare for the tourney.

The Sturgeon are staging at the regular places right now, and if you want to see these great creatures, I suggest you get there in the next few days. I feel they will be gone by the weekend. This is a great time to bring out the kids and see some huge fish. They really do like it, and it is awesome to see for yourselves as well. One of my favorite places to go see them is at Bamboo Bend in Shiocton.

There are a few crappies and bluegills starting to show up in the marinas and the small creeks and inlets on Bago. A lot of small stuff being reported, but this action will heat up soon, as the weather continues to get better outside. We like to use small M -n-M jigs, tipped with tiny shiners under a float. I like the areas around Stockbridge Harbor, off of Cty Trunk Hwy A, and also the marina at High Cliff for some good action.

Several people are asking me about the whitebass, and it is a few weeks early for them. There are a few being caught, but generally the whitebass run is real strong when the lilac bushes start to bloom. We llike to anchor for these in the Big Eddy or the Round Hole in New London. I like to use river rigs or powder blue jigs. We do not use stinger hooks for whitebass, once you get into them, you generally can get a meal real fast.

Winnebago is starting to heat up along the east shore. It seems that a lot of the people on their docks are doing well for them with leeches or by casting little cleos or some cranks even. I have had several reports on this, and it may be time to pull out the trolling gear and start getting along that east shore and start trolling in the shallower water. I really like to run small cranks right now, and would suggest either #5 Flicker Shads, #5 Shad Raps, or a scootchie rig. These have been proven to get fish early in the year. We generally will troll in the 6-11 foot range and start out at about 1.5 MPH and make our adjustments from there. There have been some reports coming to me that the southern part of the lake is giving up some decent sized crappies in and around the Supple Marsh area. I have not been there to find out yet, but that can always be a blast also.

Generally overall, right now is a great time of year to be out on the lakes, rivers, inlets and find some fish. I would suggest bringing a lot of different types of baits and colors, and keep throwing different things at them, until you find what is working. I hope this helps you all out, and remember to take a kid fishing.

Thank you for the report. I would add that the perch are biting quite well on the Fox River along the pilings up river from rainbow park - actually all along both sides of the river it seems. If you can get in lower current area you can use a light enough jig that the perch can pick it up or use a wolf river rig with a tiny red treble. We caught a few walleyes along with limit of perch on Sunday. I also saw lots of people pulling flies & catching whitebass; it is too early to be the run - just alot of whities already in the river I guess.

what is a scootchie rig?

Scootchie Rigs are a great way to catch a lot of big walleyes. This type of fishing tackle are just being introduced to Lake Winnebago, but they are used all over the USA and are a great fishing bait. This type of fishing tackle will run about the same as your standard crawler harness, but the Scootchie Rig has an extra zip of a squid bait. You can order something similar on other website's for as high as $8.99 each. Order your Scootchies today for only $3.99 each. As always, I only use the best components I can find. What are you waiting for! Choose the ones you want and place your order now, and start catching some monster sized walleyes. You can also purchase these at various stores in the area. Look for more colors and new products coming soon!!!

Axl's Extreme Tackle Scootchie Rigs consist of:

15# mono line #2 blood red hooks

6 foot leads, 8mm faceted beads

Colorado Blades size #5 and plastic interchangeable clevises. All you will need to do with the rig is cut the knot, trim the Scootchie Rig line to any length you want, add your barrel swivel and in-line weight, and your all set!

LET'S GO FISHING FOR WALLEYES!!!

We also offer #2 Axl's Blood Red Octopus fishing Hooks and Medium sized Axl's Interchangeable Clevises for sale. Scroll to the bottom of this page for details. Look for more fishing tackle and fishing gear in the near future. These fishing products can be found also at

Truckin' America in Menasha, Wisconsin.

I could make those for 1/2 that price. I thought this was a fishing report board and not the buy/sell forum???

Thanks for the answer. Axl also provided information about where you could see them to copy them - so I am not bothered by someone who makes lots of good reports to the board also saying he has something available for sale.

you are right anon poster, it is not a sales board, HOWEVER, It has been made clear in the past that if some one asked about a product it could be talked about by everyone.

I know how Scott feels... I've had to fight off requests for my all new "Triple Lindy" ever since I revealed it a few weeks ago. I've had people flood my e-mail asking me to go into production with requests as far away as the deadliest catch crew from Alaska. I've had so many requests for interviews that I had to quit my real job and am now pursuing a full time career as the President of the all new "Triple Lindy Production Team"

Sure you can buy an "imitation triple lindy" for a lot less than mine cost, but consider the loving care and attention to detail that goes into every bait. My new company, Triple Lindy Production Team", personally tests each harness to ensure your complete satisfaction.

Axle was thinking of selling these, but decided that he could not keep up with production.

We are thinking about a joint adventure and we are looking forward to flooding this board with a constant barage of advertising!

Also, look for our new line of rotory blades for your lawn mower that take the hassle out of bending over to pickup crawlers.

I can tell you this much about tying harnesses of any kind for sale. They are labor intensive and the best quality components cost money. I have a harness and component store online and it is very time consuming. I'm thinking of selling my online store and inventory just because of how much time is really needed to keep up with orders.

I see nothing wrong with AXL answering a question the way he did. If somebody asked me what one of my products looked like, I'd probably answer the same way.

Those are intereting rigs guys. They look like winners.

That's close enough for infringement of my ideas. Please send compensation in the form of waypoints.

Does anyone know how long it will take the NCA to review and hopefully approve my application for the scholarship and apprenticeship program? Also has anyone been using the food that makes crawlers turn green and if so are you awarded style points? Has anyone come up with a polka dot crawler?

I have been watering my lawn with the river water from Depere. It is really easy to pick the crawlers now because they glow in the dark. These will be for sale soon and will be called Worm-n-Glow...Glow-n-Worm...Night-n-Crawl...well, I will figure out the name soon. I can tell you the ones with two heads will be called......................................DEUCE!
