Location: Rhinelander | Make sure the motor was serviced regularly and all the service bulletins were addressed. Best to have her put on the 'puter at a Merc dealer. |

| there was some issues with the 3 liter from 99 to 2001 have the dealer check merc net to get the history on the motor and see if the power head was replaced there was a recall on the fuel rails in 2000 if there was problems see if they were changed or up graded my experience has been that if it hasn't blown by now your not going to have a problem with a motor that old check with the ddt the hours the compression should be checked . make sure that the vacuum fuel pump has been changed mercury has a bulletin to replace with nylon other then that have fun that motor is a rocket have been looking for one myself 2000 to 2003 with 20" shaft Jim |

| Mine was an early 2002.
Finally found out in 2007, replaced with a rebuilt 2005 & ECU
The problem was with the #4 & #6 cylendars, Injectors and Thats side fuel rails. There were three changes from 1999-2002 in The Injectors. The Electronic Control unit is a computer. It has Bios updates, and yes every year liie a computer it gets improved and better.
It took an A plus experienced Mercury Mechanic 30 minutes to nail it down.
Was very satisfied with Mertins Marine in Oshkosh 920-231-6751 , thats all they serve are Mercury and they are the Best. Northen IL blew it as also Milwaukee. Was well worth the trip.
Good Luck, you need an engine anaylis to get to the bottom of it. |

Location: McFarland, WI | I had one that was great. Only problems were a sticky solenoid that needed to be kept clean and a thermostat that stuck and needed replacement. My favorite Merc mechanics. Brian at Nestegg Marine in Marinette and Josh at the Boat Doc in Lomira. |
