Finally got the boat from the dealer and wanted to take it out on Winnebago for a break in session. I took the rear deck out to make more room for trolling and found one of the four bolts was longer than the other three and it was cross threaded, a pain to take out, but it did come out. I was wondering if I ran a tap through the nut glassed in the boat to make sure the threads were clean if it would mess up the nut or insert or whatever it is that's glassed in? I'd hate to buy a new bolt and then find out it would get frozen up in the threads.

Another question, it seems like a good idea to put cap plugs or something else in the holes when the deck is out to keep strange things from getting in there. Anyone else do this?

I might push a roll tap and not a cutting tap through it and see if there is still enough thread to hold securely. If too loose maybe open it up to the next size. Or if too loose apply some blue loctite to the threads and see if that helps hold up.

Caps are available for the glassed in fasteners, call Laurie at 800.359.4416. and ask her to send you 4.

ABG,
Curious how the 20 Raker is working on your X190?

I haven't run the Raker yet, but I will try it in Michigan in a few days. I only had the boat out once on Winnebago to break in the Pro Kicker before I head up to the UP for a week for their opener. It was a choppy/small white cappy kind of day where I didn't feel comfortable opening the 200 E-Tec up all the way. I wasn't familiar with how the boat handled yet, and it was a lot different than my deep V Alumacraft/150HP rig I used before, so caution was observed.

The old rig had a 19" SS with vent holes and it revved up in a hurry, popping the boat on plane with less throttle. The 21" Al that came with the new motor was a dog out of the hole unless you really got on it. Then once on plane it revved up so fast I had a hard time watching the waves, the tach and speed at the same time, so what it could do WOT is still a mystery. I'm trying to get a hold of a 23" Renegade or Cyclone before I head up. The four blades will hopefully help hold the boat on plane at a lower speed, which is more practical running with bigger waves/rollers than just pounding over the tops, at least that's what I figure now judging from my past experiences. The Al 3 blade just lost lift when you were holding around 22mph on the wave crests, causing me to get on and off the power too much trying to just gently run with the waves. It was either taking off like a scalded cat or else struggling to hold plane, not a good choice.

I notice the boat had a tendency to take water over the front trolling into the waves, kind of like my old Ranger 1600 did. The nose goes down and with the short distance between waves on Winnebago the next one is on you before the nose can come back up again while trolling at 2mph. But it sure did ride nice on plane going parallel to the waves, and into the waves it got on top and rode smooth too, it was just going with the waves that was a little tricky to avoid beating up the fishermen. But my Al deep V was the same way and it pounded harder even if the higher free board on the nose kept it a little drier trolling. So, I'll let you know when I get a chance to do some running in smoother conditions, what the tach and speedometer readings are for the different props.
