Member Posts: 160 Location: Menasha, WI | The reefs are really starting to produce some nice catches. We have had a limit or close to it the last five times out. I am using 1/16 oz jigs tipped with crawlers. I am not using leeches at all. We are dragging them on the bottom and having good success. I am also very impressed with the size of the perch we are catching as well. I will take these fish anywhere in the country. 10-12 inch perch are very nice in my book. The outer bar has a ton of boats on it in the morning and I have not seena lot of people catching fish. Most are slip bobbering here. There has been very few people on Mansur Reef. I have trolled by here a few times and caught fish. We have been using Flicker shads or Shad Raps anywhere from 25 to 50 feet behind the boards. Stevens Reef continue to give up fish. There have been people fishing a lot of different ways here and having good catches of both perch and walleyes. Little Blackbird Island area continues to be a popular place for perch fishermen. I have seen a lot of boats in this area and they all appear to be perch jerking. Gehrkes Reef has not had too many boats on it at all. I was shocked to see this last Saturday. I just may have to sneak down there one of these days and see what is going on. The mouth of the Fox River is still producing some good walleyes and there is some quality sized fish here. Some are running cranks, some are pumping flies and some are running harnesses here. The area in and around the Jesiut retreat is heating up for trolling. I trolled near here recently and there was a lot of boats doing the same thing. We ran all cranks and had little success. Long Point is full of boats daily and it is really tough to fish here right now with all the boats here in this area. I would suggest looking for a different reef or hump and avopid all these people. I am shocked at the amount of weeds and debris floating around the Oshkosh area. We tried to troll this area on Saturday and it was almost impossible to keep our lines vlean. After netting only a few smaller walleyes, we left this area. The Northwest is still the best and cleanest water I can find right now. The east is clearing up, but still remains rather muddy or cloudy. A few trollers are having luck while trolling the mud. There is a lot of sheeps and whitebass out there right now, so be sure to get your baits under these fish or else all you will catch is them. We have been running cranks anywhere from 80 to 140 feet behind the boards. Mettalic colors seem to be better then natural colors latley. The reefs around Garlic Island are slow for trolling right now. I would suggest trying to jig this area with either slip bobbers or dragging leeches or crawlers. The smaller humps around the Neenah Lighthouse continue to do well for some perch. I see a lot of boats there in the mornings and then they all dissappear by noon or so. On 6/23/2008 we fished from 7 to 4 pm and had 14 walleyes, 8 perch, 6 smallies and several sheeps. The walleyes were from 13 to 18 inches that we kept. | ||
