What effects do you think tournament fishing will feel with the new anouncement of cuts at Brunswick? I got a feeling that sponsorship cuts from Mercury, Lund, Triton, etc are soon to follow.

You may see some changes for '09, but my take is that the major cuts in that area took place heading into the current year - promotion must still happen, but efficiencies are often discovered during times like this.

times LIKE THIS ??? ,well , there is now talk that oil will be at 2.00 a barrel soon, went up another 5 cents a barrel yesterday, that would put us at over 5.00 a gallon by the end of the season, there is talk of another 50 cents over winter, and by next season we are looking at 7.00/gallon, im trying not to be doom and gloom but airline travel will stop and its getting close to that point within weeks, the cost to fly from milwaukee to orlando needs to be 900 dollars a seat for the airline to servive,GAS goes up another 50 cents and your looking at 1200 a seat. over the road trucking and shipping will be devistated , your talking about this country shutting down at 7 dollars a gallon, all i hafta say is were worried about triton and merc programs for there pro anglers? im saying with the cost of materials (patrolium based) and shipping there may no longer be triton boats being built ! there will always be folks who can afford them.. but hang on to your jobs folks we could be in some trouble here!! i dont care what buisness your in..... i dont think people realize how much fuel affects how things work in this country,, a paper plant here, a gm plant there. remodeling and building will stop , 6 weeks of vacation, dont like it ? there will be 20 people lined up to do your job or less money, someone cheer me up im a bit worried today! the politicians and the news coverage dance around this subject, folks go on with there every day lives like nothing is happening oh well. time for me to find a bare bones 16 foot deep v aluminum tiller with a good running outboard. fishing for competitive reasons may just be replaced with fishing for food. the state govornment is spending far more then there taking in as we speak, if folks arent putting gas in there tanks and spending money at sears or on restaraunts and icecream the state isnt taking in revinue.. hang on to your shorts boys.

The problem the politicians and the think tanks don't want to really tell you about is real scary. The Chinese and Indians have bred themselves into a world needs situation where the world can't support all the population, food, gas, and jobs. If the world could shed itself of at least 25% of the population we would be sitting comfortable. Simply stated....the needs of all the people can't be met at current prices...supply and demand at its finest. Every Chinaman and Indian now has a car which needs gas....the world is screwed. Over population is the problem whether you want to admit it or not.

The thing I worry about the most is this nations ability to stay strong and defend itself during these uncertain times. There is no doubt that things will get worse before they get better. With all the oil rich lunatics in foreign lands and one of our own politicians bidding for the open "Anti Christ" job in 2009, or a job in his cabinet, I'm laying in a good supply of ammo. The economic decisions that should have been made years ago by our senators and congressmen to stem this pending doom went unsolved or acted apon because of a few Bleeding liberal hearts. We are I'm afraid victims to a degree of the many Freedoms we enjoy and the decisions we can and do make because of them. Do you think North Korea would not be drilling for oil in a parts of their own country so as not to inconvenience a few caribou or spoil the beach side scenery? I wonder how this new generation is going to handle another depression if it happens. The strength and character I saw in both my father and grandfather because of going through the last one I'm afraid is weak in me and well hidden in the majority of kids I see today. Sorry about the rant. As far as tournaments go or any sports that have to have a fan base to support them, they will go as the economy goes. Sports and hobbies are luxury items and the first things cut in tough times. When tournament fishing stops becoming the best of the best and becomes the best with the most, it's over. Disclaimer: These are only my personal feelings and not meant to sway or make anybody mad. Sorry if they did.

walleye express , you have made a great point , the strength of the generation from the 20s is something i dont know if we could duplicate. the sad part is that history tells a great story from the great roman empire and its fall to where we are today, in life we learn from our experiances , fisherman get better threw experiance , work , family , with experiance come wisdom, unfortunatly there is a good part of the population that focuses on moving forward . all fine and dandy but forgetting about the past or choosing not to look back and learn from it is going to be something that with every bad decision made in the future shows us how insaine we the people realy are. a democrocy dream is always nice but unfortuanatly we the people have forgotten that we live in a republic . as stated above the greatest generation is responsible for where we are today and we have been living on there hard work and sacrafice for a long time , remember the only reason the good guys won the war is because we had the strongest manufacturing base. when we converted our auto and other manufacturers and our natural resources into war support we simply could produce more airplains ships and tanks than the enemy could shoot down, we built 4 to every one sunk or destroyed, does anyone realize what kind of production facilitys china has ? can you imagine if it was all converted to military? what are the odds that they overlook history? what are the odds that they didnt notice that we won the war out of sheer mass production of military vehicals and weopons , im sure there not that smart though. how does this affect our tournament budget for next year.. not much for next year.. i just hope my son and daughter and someday grandkids dont end up defending our american soil from there front porch.. holding another country down to keep us on top is wrong but it all started with the clintons giving china most favored nation status only what a few years after teanamans square? and congress went along with it , and a day ago Bush loosens up the ties with North Koria and trade? we have been electing sellouts from our schoolboard to small town mayors to judges for 20 years now! looks like its only going to take a generation or 3 to potentialy destroy what has been built in this country, and destroy what so many flocked from other countrys for many many years ago.. there are still many many comming to this country, out of the frying pan they come.. lets hope its not into the fire! THUMPER I NEED SOME MORE CUTE BUNNY PICTURES !!!! QUICK!!
