Well, it appears the supply of willow cats for the FLW League Championship has dried up. I am searching high and low for some of these beauties. If anyone has a supplier for willow cats IN MINNESOTA, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks in advance!!

One sexy dude posted this back in July regarding the League Championship:

"It should be a FISHING tournament, not a "who can get willowcat" contest."

Good Luck- sound like it has become the latter.

It is what it is Thumper. I'm doing whatever I can to get the bait that, I feel, will give me the best chance to place as high as possible in the tournament.

Supply is pretty thin and is on a first come first serve basis at the couple of places that sell them, and they never really know when they will get them in. As of right now (noon on thursday) no one has them in stock. They normally limit them to 2 - 3 dozen per angler. Going rate is $13/doz when they are around. This would not even be an issue if the VHS laws didn't prevent harvesting out of the river in WI.

Jerry,

I sent you an email. There will be some more available, but not many. I don't think 100 dozen for 90 or so boats will cut it. You can bet your left arm that the locals have theirs. I got mine today, and there was a group consisting of two ladies and an older gentelmen who said they were "getting todays 9 dozen for somebody". It makes it awfully tough to get them when the store gets 60 dozen at 6 pm and is down to about 18 dozen by closing time at 7. Then the store was pretty much sold out by 8:10 am today (10 minutes after opening).

You'd better know somebody or sit in front of that store all day every day hoping that you're there when the supply shows up. You can get 3 dozen per day right now, but I'd be willing to bet that will tighten up to 2 dozen a day by next week.

Yikes! I called my hole in the wall place and they said they got 4 calls this morning about willys. No dice for them. Bait dealer doesnt have em. Probably at the end of the run. Irv's?

Well, I for one am just happy to be fishing. I got good karma and the luck of the Polish. We'll see what happens.

Jerry and Mark,

Rich and I went through the same thing for the MWC Championship in Prairie Du Chein. We were told that you had to have willow cats to do good. Two years in a row, we took a top ten finish and never used them during the whole tournament. The last year we were there, the guys who took second didn't use them either. I've never fished near Winona, so things could be different. My advice, is don't get caught up in the hype of willow cats. Yes, tournaments are won with them, but I strongly believe you can win without them as well. Boy I hated those things!! Best of luck to both of you!

Well, they were standing in line for 2 hrs or more this morning in Winona, hoping to get their 3 dozen willow cats per person at West End. My sources tell me they ran out just after 7 am.

http://www.walleyefan.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 This was published today on walleye fan. The bait shop mentioned said they have them available, after this article they will be even harder to get.

I got tons of them because I bought up all the supply for 25 dollars a dozen so I can sell them for 75.00- to 100.00 dollars per dozen to the BIG BUCK bottomless wallets of the tournament guys. If I want you to have some I will contact you on an individual basis. Prepare to part with some $$$$. This is called making money by stealing candy from babies and then selling it back to the parents.

Every day until the tournament starts the price will rise by 25 dollars per dozen. I am currently sitting on about a 150-200 dozen seined from the river during the cover of darkness. Sneaky ain't I?

The article was wrong on several accounts, they need to take better notes. - 1. the Mississippi River is not legal to harvest from, 2. there were no cats available at the time the "interview" was done, and 3. Mitch Jerowski IS fishing the event.
