Member Posts: 1040 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Jimmy Hughes of Oshkosh, WI isn't a stranger to being in the drivers seat of a big tournament, in fact, he's been in the situation twice this year. He was leading after Day 1 at Merc Nationals, which is the largest event of it's kind, and again last month at the MWC on Lake Winnebago, only to fall from the top spot on day 2 both times. Hughes wasn't looking to change much today, he was just looking for a solid limit. He said the first five fish were going into the well but he also said it helps having a bit of a cushion from two hard charging locals. Those five bites came, but those five fish didn't. Coming to the scales with only four fish, one of which would tip the scales around six pounds, Hughes was able to claim his first major victory in 17 years of tournament fishing with a weight of 10lbs. and 5 ounces. One of those hard charging locals looking to play spoiler was Dan Christensen. Christensen said this morning he was fishing for the boat, that's why he was here. His game plan for today was big fish and fishing big fish spots only. He managed a solid weight at 13lbs. and 2 ounces to take third behind another local river rat; Galen Bremmer. Bremmer, an Avoca, WI boater took a swing for the fence with day three's heaviest weight at 20lbs. and 5 ounces. Bremmer said, “If I would have had 8 or 9 pounds the first day I could’ve done it,". Bremmer also noted on stage that a camera boat (WalleyeFirst Media boat) came by while he was fishing one of his best wing dams. He had been there for over an hour without even a bite, just about ready to leave, when a 4-pounder bit. From there he proceeded to fill his live well with a five fish limit and a four pound average. Bremmer took home $3,500 for his second place finish, respectable for his first FLW League Championship. Fourth was nabbed by Mathew Ernst with a total weight of 33lbs. and 6ounces to claim a check for $1,750.00. Brad Dirkman claimed fifth place with a total weight of 31lbs. and 14ounces to claim a check for $1000. Congratulations to Matherw Ernst for claiming the Toyota Tundra contingency money; $2000 for the highest placing 2007 or newer Toyota Truck owner. Member Posts: 43 Location: Arcadia, WI | Congrats to Jimmy Hughs, and way to go Galen Bremmer posting great day 2 & 3 weight for a hard charging 2nd place finish - Nell and I were glad to be a part of this. Ever wonder what an old river rat like Galen does the night before his tournaments? He hones his fishing skills - our poor cat will not be the same. ![]() Attachments ---------------- ![]()

I'd like to thank everyone who helped me out with bait and some good advice throughout the tournament. I would also like to thank my teammate Nick Schertz, who located some of the key areas that I was fishing in the tournament. And thanks to all the great people who work for Walleye First. It was a great time on the Mississippi. Jim
