Location: Rhinelander | The field left 1/2 hour late this morning after some difficulties getting everyone in the water, but spirits were high and reports of a great bite common. "This will be a slug fest!" Said Pro Scott Fairbairn. " If this had been a couple weeks later and the fish were in the river, things would have been different; right now everyone seems to be catching fish!" Everyone WalleyeFIRST spoke to this morning was making the sand bar laden run 40 plus miles to the lake. The weather today is going to cooperate: Today...Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 60s. West winds 10 to 15 mph shifting to the south in the afternoon. Watch for our continuing coverage from the Civic Center this afternoon! Location: Rhinelander | A much tougher bite than most of the Pros experienced in pre-Fish created lighter bags and tougher decisions today. Many of the pros reported releasing a couple good fish early, only to have the bite die and not be able to replace them. A few boats ended up on sand bars, but for the most part reports were good on traversing the river's ever changing structure. Ron Seelhoff brought 18.5 pounds to the Bismarck Civic Center scales to take the lead by less than a pound over second place Brett King, who weighed in 17.94. Ted Takasaki holds third just a bit back with 17.69 currently enough to lead in the Toyota Walleye Angler rewards race and a chance at a check for an additional $3,000.00 from Toyota Trucks. There is a three way tie for tenth place right now. Looks like Mr. Fairbairn was correct, this is going to be a slugfest. Chris Gilman is in fourth, Mark Michael fifth, Ross Grothe sixth, Joe Okada seventh, Pat Byle eighth, Joe Jochman ninth, and Tom Keenan tenth, tied with Bill ortiz, and Tom Brunz. It took over 14 pounds to make the day one Top ten. Day One Images: http://walleye.outdoorsfirst.com/leaderboard/llb.asp?t=750&view=ima... Watch for continuing coverage through this evening, and again from the water's edge tomorrow morning, and the clearest, most cross-platform, most up to date (AND, with the least delay) live feed on the web. Looks like Seelhoff is still the King of that river. I think he has won 2 PWT Championships there and has two seconds in the PWT CHampionships there. That river seem to be an open wallet for Ron. Good for ROn and would love to see him win again. Fishing fan | |||
