Subject: Trolling Motor Battery Question

I have a MinnKota 80lb EM Motor on my boat. I ran it all spring with no issues. Then the day before a tournment it crapped out on me. I took it to the Minn Kota repair center by my house and the guy told me that the armature was fried. Can not explain why but he fixed it under warranty. Took it out the following weekend and it ran for a while and now it runs so slow I can see the prop going around. I did purcase two new batteries this season so they should be good. The only thing is that I have two differnt series sizes. My question is can this cause a issue? I also tried charging the batteries with my on board charger and two differnt battery chargers. I have my batteries wired negitive from the motor on one battery and positive on the other battery with a jumper from positive to negitive to create the 24 volts. Am I missing something? I want to get this fixed asap but I don't want to take the motor off again as it is a pain in the butt. Thanks

Check your fuses, I had close as to what you are explaining and 1 fuse was blowen right off of one of the two batterys. Might not be your problem but worth a look. Good luck!

Wiring sounds alright. If one of the fuses was a problem, the motor wouldn't run at all. Are you sure the batterys are fully charged? you can check with a voltmeter. They should read 12.7V each. Different series batterys will affect run time as the smaller battery drains quicker.

Have you checked all your connections? A loose one could cause this.

I'd say it's either less than full charge, or the motor is going again.

Pull the batteries out and take them down to Batteries Plus for a load test. They do it for free and you will know right away if one is bad. I had to replace a battery last year that was only one year old.

Thanks guys. I will have a load test done on them. I do read about 13 volts with the meter. Why would the motor go that fast. I only had maybe 5 hours on the "new" armature.
