Location: Oshkosh, WI | I have a good 8 hp merc trolling motor on my 17' aluminum boat and I am thinking about replacing it with an electric transom mount because I think this will be out of the way when I take the kids skiing and I don't like the way my kicker bounces around (I think I would have to spend some money to get this set up so it doesn't fall off someday).
I generally fish the winnebago system.
am I crazy? what are the pros/cons.

| If you pull cranks, I probably would not go only EM, as you may find that your batteries won't last all day long. They might, but they might not. If you pull mainly spinner rigs, then yes, you could do this, and not worry about the battery issue. With an 80# or bigger, that is.. |

Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | I will agree. EM is ok for spinners if you need to slow down, but kicker for cranks. If the kicker will slow you down enough to pull spinners, I would not hang that EM's weight on my motor. Also, the 8hp can easily be tied down so it will not bounce. As for the kids, use a pylon or a Y strap to attach the tow cord. Call me, I can help.

Location: Berlin | I also agree. I used a 36V Vantage on my buddies 17'er and it would go all day at 1.5mph or slower. Get over that and you start to have issues. It would push that boat 3mph at 100%. |

| I wouldn't want to rely on batterys myself. 8hp isn't to heavy if your worried about it when you ski or tube take it off. just my .02 |
