I just spoke with the Store Manager in De Pere and he confirmed that they are going to close the locations as mentioned above.  They are in the process of setting up the DePere Store liqudation of inventory and plans will be announced for the sale in the next few days.

The decision was a corporate move based on dwindling credit due to the banking crunch.

I will miss the store for it's great customer service, inventory and selection.

Sportsman's Warehouse stores closing in Wisconsin

Mar. 10, 2009 3:02 p.m. | Sportsman's Warehouse in New Berlin and De Pere will close in 60 days, the company announced Tuesday.

The stores, which opened in 2004, are among 23 that will be closed by the Utah-based sporting goods chain. New Berlin store manager Wanda Luebke said a liquidation sale will begin soon. Sixty people are employed at the store.

Sportsman's Warehouse also announced the sale of 15 locations to UFA Co-operative LImited, of Alberta, B.C. A release on the company's Web site said Sportsman's Warehouse hopes to stay in business elsewhere with 2,300 employees.

Before the closings and sale, the company operated 67 stores in 29 states. Sportsman's Warehouse is privately owned, with revenues of about $800 million.

Now with Sportsman's Warehouse closing the doors, Gander Mountain Now needs to step up to the plate and build a super store here in Appleton.

Yes it is pretty unfortunate. I think you'll see alot more closings of retail stores in the next six months or so.
I think the good ole days are past us and the economy and such are gonna put alot more people in survival mode.

I've read two reports from fishing insider news reports that predict that 40% of the marine industry will be gone by the end of the year.

Some have indicated that it has already started and will get worst now that GE has notified dealerships that their rates have just gone up on floor plans.

Batten down the hatches boys!
