Subject: stainless prop

I have a 1750 crestliner fishhawk with a 90hp johnson 2 stroke motor, it currently has a 14x17 aluminum prop. It accelerates and get on plane fairly well and has a max speed of about 37.5mph at w.o.t. and approx 5500rpm. I was thinking of replacing my prop with a stainless. Should I get a prop with the same diameter and
pitch or should I get a smaller diameter (13.5 or 13.25) with a greater pitch (19). Would I see any advantages with the stainless. Trying to get more top speed and not loose my hole shot. Any advise would help.

I think the theory on SS is that you can go up one pitch size without any significant loss on low end. I don't see a reason to decrease diameter. You want as much surface area pulling as possible.

Eyez... is that you? (South Dakota "Eyez")

Anyway~
Your prop is the perfect size as evidenced by your hole shot and top rpms. Perfect.
If you go to a stainless prop in 17 pitch designed for your engine...it will most likely have a bit smaller diameter, because of more rake.
A stainless prop doesn't flex and offers more bow lift. This might translate to a small gain in speed (2 mph +/-)...because you can get more boat up and out of the water when you trim. You'll be able to trim higher. Stainless props have more cupping and tend to take a little more torque to turn them.
So, you'll likely see a slight drop in rpms. A little is ok.

You are doing pretty darn good with a 90hp on that boat right now, as is.
