Member Posts: 1991 | Just wondering, in your areas that the lets say the FLW Tour shows up is there any media coverage? Not a peep here on the local stations or radio? Of course MN is the midwest version of the "land of the fruits and nuts " You would think the FLW would do something to advertise and draw in a crowd, advertisors would like that I bet!

Location: Rhinelander | The area press is very aware the FLW is in town, it's simply that they have little interest in sending out a crew, I'd guess...or they'd be here.

I've talked to several guys in the tourney and they say there seems to be some distain towards the event as people before the first flight are parking thier boats over fishing spots not fishing, just preventing tour guys from fishing certain holes.

Member Posts: 744 | Most local news stations make their people's email addresses available on their website. A few emails (a week or so prior to the tournament) to your sports department might let them know there is some interest in having them do a bit of coverage anyway. But then again, if they listened to everyone, you'd hear your sports guy announcing who won the corner bar cribbage tournament, and no one wants that. And please don't say that because there is money involved it makes it more interesting, 'cause it don't. Not to the non-tourney fisherman or the general public. There are a million little "niche" sports that public doesn't care about, and they all have their little websites where the few enthusiasts try to figure out how to "mainstream" their sport. Unfortunately, tournament fishing is one of those. Edited by thumper 5/7/2009 2:20 PM

Member Posts: 300 Location: Lincoln Park, Mi | Around here, our local paper that covers a few suburbs around the Detroit River/Lake Erie area usually has a descent sized article if any major circuit is in town. The bigger Detroit papers usually don't cover the walleye tourneys, but have covered the FLW bass events. It can be a good and bad thing though. The MWC came here a few years ago in the summer and had a TERRIBLE mortality rate, something like 70% of the fish died(don't quote me on the exact %), and guess what was front page!? And guess what non-anglers remember? Not the preview or tourney coverage from any of the other tourneys, just the MWC fish kill!
