Subject: X 190 Towing?

Looking for a new ride for my wife and we test drove a GMC Envoy XL with a 4.3L inline 6 cyl. Something like 275 h.p. Wondering how this would pull an X 190. Any thoughts? I travel from Green Bay to Western Minnesota from time to time. Just curious. Thanks.

I pulled a boat that I had previously that was actually heavier than my X-190 I have now with a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer and it did the job very well. However, personally, I like towing a boat of this size with a truck that has a V-8. Reason being the truck with the V-8 handles the boat with much more ease and the power of the V-8 is endless. I think as long as your not going multiple hours to and from the lake you'd be perfectly fine with this truck. The X-190 will total out about 2500lbs or so and that's definitely below the towing capacity of the Envoy. I think you'd be just fine in my opinion.

I agree with TJ. The v-6 will lack the power you will want on the hills and bluffs you will pass through to weste4rn Minny. Also, the rpms will be much higher with the pull. They tow great but they are a big boat.

I tow my 1890 with a 02 Ford with 5.4, it is rated for 265 hp I believe, it may have more torque than the 6 but it does a fine job.

I pull my X190 behind a full size 01 Yukon @ 285 hp - no problems for me.. Dosn't seem the Envoy will be that much different @ 275hp.
Good luck.

The biggest problem I see is the short wheelbase of the Envoy. The power of the inline 6 should be good, as those inline 6's usually had great torque compared to a V6. Short wheelbase, and braking would be my biggest concern. Definately get brakes on it, and also suggest the tandem axle trailer for stability on the road.
