After a great day fishing, somewhere on my return trip my water pump stopped working. The alarm never alerted me to this and now I have a very sick motor . What will this cost me to have fixed? Of course I don't know the extent of the damage as yet . The motor is a 2003 with at most 200 hrs. Not that that makes much difference. Where do I find a good tool man in the Westbend, Fon du lac area.

Mr. Marine is the place to go and is probably the closest in the area in which your looking for. Located on the south shore of Lake Winnebago, Bob Lloyd use to work for Mercury and is the guy I look to for any engine questions or maintenance/repair work.

Otherwise, I've heard a ton of good things about Fort Fremont Marine, just a little further northwest of the Winnebago system. Denny will take good care of you also!

Another vote here for the Boat Doc by Lomira.
Josh took care of an '01 and '03 Opti that I cooked and I had no future issues with either of them.

The boat Doc in Lomira would be your closest Merc Dealer. Then Mr. Marine in Fond du Lac. Fort Fremont is a bit further. All 3 are equally experienced and capable. Wendt's is up by Bago, too. I am not familiar with their service, but I assume the are capable, too.

Now, I wouldn't get too worried just yet. These motors have the Guardian system on them, and they go into reduced power mode when there is a problem. So maybe that is what you experienced, and are assuming the worst? Hopefully, a new impellor will take care of it, and you'll be back on the water in no time.

Here's hoping for the best.

Both Josh and Bob are excellent. I think Josh is vacationing in the tropics right now with all the money he made in the Merc

Thanks for all the info on boat guru's. I took the boat into the Boat Doc and Josh's diagnosis was a blown air compressor. He told me that," when that sucker goes", lots of people think they have a more serious engine problem then they do. It's not a cheap fix, $800 for the part, but lots cheaper then a new power head. Thanks again all!
