Member Posts: 650 | Got a guy lo0king for a boat on a HP restricted lake 40 hp... How would a 1700 tiller go with a 40 hp? He likes my boat so I thought he might get by with the 1700... the wide open layout is user friendly...

Member Posts: 56 | If he doesn't ever plan on getting the boat up on plane a 40 will work, IMHO that boat would be way under powered, I had a 17' glass tiller (Skeeter) and I could only get about 37mph with a 75 Yammi, At the cabin a few weeks ago watched a guy with a 17' mirrocraft try to get his boat on plane, I kinda felt sorry for him, it wasn't pretty.

I have a 1989 180, I have repowered it with a late model 75hp merc it does plane very easy, but the top end on the boat is 41mph with a 1/4 tank of gas and no gear. Add fuel and gear and your in the 38mph range. but it does cruse very nice around 30 mph. beside why would you want to go much faster with a tiller boat?

Member Posts: 650 | moreyes, I believe he has his eyes on a 40 etec tiller engine, which would be perfect for this lake... he talks about a good stable fishing boat so thats why i was thinking the 1700T, I'll have to rethink this guys, maybe a Esox model for him... thanks for the planing info guys, he may at times have the wife and kids/family with him...

Member Posts: 1991 | I would think an ETEC with its extra low end grunt of a 2 stroke and proped right would do low 30, it only wiehgs 1100# Go to Etec sight and check out their performance reports on the 40 hp the one below went 35 mph http://www.evinrude.com/NR/rdonlyres/5DFC61A2-F2B2-4526-A7A1-8EA955...

Member Posts: 17 | I had a 1700GT with a 50hp Yamaha 4 str...It was not good for the bigger water. It was slow to plain and top end was 30mph. empty W/ just the driver. Good for a smaller body of water,,
