Wondering how any of you with this have mounted the transducer. They give 4 options, jack plate, step mount, direct step mount, or transom. Any reason for one over the others?

Thanks.

What kind of boat do you have? If you are running a bass boat with a step hull and jack plate, I would mount on the jack plate or the upper step. The key is to mount in place that will be in the water up to 15 MPH. SS gets the quality image because of the high frequency and narrow cone angle front to back (only 3-5 deg). It may get a high speed reeding for depth, but you won't be able to make out the images at higher speeds. On a V-hull with a flat transom, I would mount on center line side of your existing transducer. Lowrance uses a really strong bracket, but I would mount the ducer just above flush, the transducer will throw a huge rooster if you try to flush mount like a skimmer and you could lose a couple of MPH due to drag, I mounted blow flush and got reading over 40MPH, I'm raising the transducer to reduce the rooster and drag. Also on flat transom boats, you may have to trim the motor up to get a good reading.
Other tips:
Try pallets 5 & 6, pallet 6 with contrast between 72 & 76%. Pallet 5 with contrast @ 80%. Side Scanning range will work better on closer ranges and your Down will be sharper if you keep the side range closer. It you range over 100'+, use the 455 frequency, the lower frequency travels further. You will be impressed with this product! Use normal sonar for high speed running.
