Member Posts: 1195 Location: Orland Park, IL | I was wondering what has happenned to Mike McClelland. So, I did a google search. Seems a few people have tried that. The article below is pretty clever, I thought. See the article below from knoxnews.com =================================================== You - yes, you! - can astound your friends with amazing feats of coincidence and trivia simply by reading this column! What's the best name to have if you strive to be a famous and successful fisherman? (Hint: It's not "Izaak," as in Walton, the 17th century English writer whose "Compleat Angler" is believed to be the first book on the sport. Nor is it "Santiago," as in Ernest Hemingway's main character in "The Old Man and the Sea." Not "Peter," "Andrew," "James" and "John," as in fishermen disciples of the New Testament, either.) Instead, it's "Mike," as in "McClelland." I came to this learned conclusion after (a) perusing a Bass Pro Shops advertising flyer and (b) tickling computer keys. The brochure I was reading contained a list of fishing experts who are hosting seminars across the U.S. this spring. One of them, scheduled to appear in Alabama and Georgia, was named Mike McClelland. "Wonder if that's the same Mike McClelland I met, and spent several days fishing with, in South Dakota in 1982?" I thought. "He was a professional walleye fisherman back then, but maybe he has switched to bass." So I looked up his bio on the Internet. Nope. The picture didn't look anything like the Mike I knew. Besides, it turns out that bass Mike McClelland, who lives in Arkansas, is only 42. He would barely have been a teenager back then. Out of curiosity, I Googled "Mike McClelland walleye fisherman." Lo and behold, up popped "my" Mike. He still lives in Pierre, S.D., still fishes for walleyes and is listed as the all-time money leader in professional walleye circles, with earnings of more than $500,000. "Wow. What are the chances two professional fishermen would be named Mike McClelland?" I wondered. Better than I imagined. Tickling the keys further, I turned up yet another pro angler named Mike McClelland. He specializes in trout. I kid you not. Trout Mike McClelland is a native of California, lives in Colorado, guides high-dollar clients to secret waters all around the world and owns a travel company called "Best of New Zealand Fly Fishing." | ||
