just got the bassmaster magazine and it had an interesting article about charging TM batteries, on the water with a small yamaha generator. this is the second blurb I've read about this. First question I got, can the chargers today run OK with gen. output? I have a Minn kota charger... these guys were using them to charge batts while running around with TM all day. I was thinking a few different scenarios... here are a few...
camping with your boat... renting a houseboat... parking at hotel with out good plugs... Charging your main battery... using a charger with a boost feature to jump a dead battery. and last but not least... this thing would be handy if the power went out...
generator in the article... Yamaha EF -1000is with a MSRP of $849. size of a tacklebox, weighs 28#s... Size and price seem OK to me...
I'm off on vacation after work sat. gonna let you guys chew on this... might be stuff on the web and other sites but I like walleyefirst... have a good holiday!

When I was crew chief for a car at Hales Corners, and Slinger, we used to use a 1000W Yamaha generator to charge the race car batteries. There was a 12V output on it, and that would really juice them up quick. If we had time, we'd just plug in a protable 15A charger. The generator was really quiet, too.

I see no reason why this generator wouldn't work for charging boat batteries, or running your onboard charger. if you have a 30 Amp charger, you'll be drawing only about 350-400 watts. Still have enough juice to make a pot of coffee in the morning!

When I was on the road, I used a small honda to charge up the batteries. Works great, runs 8hrs on 1/2 gal of gas.
