Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | One of my fishing board members felt sorry for me when I posted that I had only 2 packages of walleye fillets left in my freezer. So he invited me and a friend along on a St.Claire river jigging trip, near the Blue Water Bridge and where Lake Huron enters that river. Now I'm no stranger to jig fishing, in fact love it the best of all the fishing techniques. But the learning curve when jigging in water deeper then 50 feet with 5/8 ounce jigs, took some getting used too, and cost me more then a few lost fish half way up last night. A couple of times I thought my drag was slipping, but then was reminded I was bring a fish up from 50 feet down. The four of us managed 20 keepers out of the 32 or so fish we hooked. The best bait was a weird little Rootbeeer colored rubber worm called the Wyondotte Worm, fallowed closely by a Orange/MetalFlake Twister. Both tipped with a 1/3 piece of fresh crawler for scent.
