Location: Appleton | Thanks to the 24 teams that fished the 1st annual Oconto Walleye Classic tournament.
The weather cooperated with light winds to start the day, but it picked up mid day and the sun was out all day. Several teams said the winds made for some long rough return rides, with some teams traveling forty miles to fish. Most of the success was on crawler harnesses and the teams fished many different locations. There was a total of seven fish caught weighing a total of 39.82#. The bite was very tough, a big change from two weeks prior at the record breaking weights at the MWS in Menominee, MI.
The team of Dan Woodke and Nick Woodke took first place with a two fish limit weighing 12.58 # winning them $1,400. Dan and Nick also had the big fish of the tournament with their 7.58# walleye winning them two plaques and a package of gift certificate from the Oconto businesses. Second place went to the team of Scott Robak and Jason Kehler with two fish weighing 11.58# for $900. Third place went to the team of Rick Lendosky and Lendosky with one fish weighing 5.70# for $700. Fourth place went to the team of Stephan Paulsen and Troy Gabriel with one fish weighing 5.30# for $400. Fifth place went to the team of Steve Weller and Ian Progar with one fish weighing 4.66# for $200.
The Mayors award went to the team of Dante Mendina and David Gurgall. This year this was awarded to the first team to sign up for the tournament.
Thanks again to the city of Oconto for sponsoring this tournament and also the local businesses for their support.
