Location: Rhinelander | The field is out and the weather perfect, so expect good weights today from those who have 'em dialed in. Wayne Van Dyke and Bruce Mueller said they were a little concerned that the fish they found yesterday have moved. They only saw a couple other boats there, so congestion shouldn't be an issue. Chad Schilling is fishing an area no one else has found as of yet, and he's more than optimistic the bite will be as good or better than yesterday. The weigh in will begin at about 4:30 Eastern, so watch for updates beginning at about 7 PM Central! Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Location: Rhinelander | Navis and Sprengel took the win over Chad Schilling by under two pounds to sweep the event. One of the largest payouts in walleye tournament history. Stand by for more! Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

There was no luck involved in this tourney, just some really skilled anglers. I was out there for two days over fish most of the time and had less than a dozen bites and caught five fish. These top teams could finess fish out of clear water with boats everywhere and we just sctatched our heads. Lesson one: It's hard to leave fish but when they won't go, you better move on. Hats off to these guys and the Escanaba people for one great show. I have been deeply humbled. I'll be back up there this week trying to figure it out. Larry Strelow

Location: Rhinelander | The winning fish came from the Cedar River area, and the key was moving until active fish were contacted. They told WalleyeFIRST they were on plan 'F' already yesterday, and just mixed it up and moved constantly, finally contacting the fish deeper than on day one and finessing them into taking the crawler. Spinner rigs were the rule for all the teams fishing both events, but some fish were caught on cranks. Spinner rigs were the rule for all the teams fishing both events, but some fish were caught on cranks. The spiny waterfleas were a problem for most, and many teams went to snap weights to 'bundle' them up and keep them off the rig. Colors ranged from purple blades to Tommy Harris customs to everything in the color wheel and more, and some reported the 'preferred' color shifted many times throughout the day as the wind blew or went calm, and changing up constantly on the fish the Lowrance told them were there was key to getting bit. Corbin and Schilling were by themselves on Friday despite the huge field of boats, and caught enough to put 23" fish back without even considering keeping one. Yesterday was tougher, and they were genuinely surprised they had the weight they did when the weighmaster locked the scale. Good weights came off of weeds, rocks, deep water, and everything in between, running spinners and crawlers and cranks. I didn't hear anyone report using spoons and jigs much during the competition, but one team actually did well 'sight fishing', looking for walleyes in the very clear waters and pitching to them. Next years NTC will be out of Isle, MN, on Mille Lacs. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Member Posts: 43 | If you were on fish, you were on 'em, but if not.... it made for two very long days. My partner and I caught sheephead both days but not a single walleye after relatively decent prefishing when the wind was up. It was quite frustrating but we were joined in the scratch department by some pretty good walleye fishermen. If Pete Harsh and partner got blanked, I am not going to be too glum about our own poor performance. It was just nice to be up there and learn a little bit more in the process.
