tbomn,I have tried everyway possible to access W.C. with no luck!Are there others out there that cannot access the above site?Thank you for letting me post this on this site.

OK, I've tossed my cookies, cleared the cache, removed my favorites, and deleted anything on the hard drive with anything remotely connected to WC. I still can't get in other than using the IP given, and then typing in the mumbo jumbo manually to get to the forums. It's a real pain in the bass. What bothers me, is I can't get in any other way. I should say that this is only at home with RoadRunner. At work, I have had no problem.

I'm not a puter super geek, but I am usually able to figure things out. I gotta believe there are lot's of others in the same boat or worse. They might not have were withall to check here for the instructions posted. This is gonna hurt WC, I'm afraid. While I spend most of my time here at OutdoorFirst, I do like WC, and even post occaisionally. But, I also like easy. So, until it's fixed for good, I'll just wait to go back.

Steve and Zach, you guys are good sports for allowing the threads relating to WC access info.

If you're still having problems try this suggestion taken from a walleye central thread.

Use a proxy server for the time being. It will allow you to get in. My ISP also denied a problem but after I started using the proxy it all was good. Here's the instructions I emailed Driftr. If I made an error, please correct it here.

I got the same problem for a few days. I emailed Scott and he said it was my ISP, but they denied it. So what was I to do? I figured that since the DNS setting wasn't correct, and no one wanted to correct it, I had to do the next best thing. I'm going through a proxy server now. In case you don't know how they work, its rather simple.My computer now goes through another computer before it goes on the internet. Doesn't slow me down at all.Here's all you do.
In Internet Explorer, click on the 'Tools' button up top. Then on the window that opens click 'Connections'. If you are on cable, click the 'LAN Settings' button. Check the box for 'Proxy Server'. Enter the following IP address in the box that says 'Address'-XXX.XX.XX.XXX Now enter '80' in the Port box ( 80 might already be there.)
For Dial-up Click on 'Settings' on the Connections window and follow the intsrtuctinos using the same IP addy.

I Didn't include the proxy addy here that I gave him only because if 500 people get on it it will slow down. To get a free proxy address just go to www.proxymania.com/page1.html

I am using IE 6. I have a work around without the Proxy server. But it is a pain.

I just spent 2 hrs with msn and they can't tell me why I can't get W.C. I have tried all suggestions below and still can't get past the home page.When I ping I get a time out.Is this a MSN problem or a W.C. problem?

It sounds like it is your ISP and their DNS files. Call your internet provider and ask them to update their files and be sure to have them try to get into AND navigate around the site. Several people have told us their ISP said everything was allright, and only later found out the ISP was wrong or lied to them.

I have pinged the site from home on both puters and from work and from my Moms house and it is all okey dokey. Scott has double checked and triple checked everything fron his end and all is well.

There is one other thing I can sugest. Well two things actually.

First, when you manually type in the ip # and Walleye Central comes up, reset that page as your bookmark or favorite for Walleye Central.

Second, clear your DNS file cache. Open a command prompt (Start - Run - cmd) and type:

ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter. This will flush your DNS cache. Your computer will not remember the old site, especially if you cleared the WC cookies, the internet files and offline contnet and history.

I still suspect your ISP. Who do you use for the internet?

I've got MSN and have been on WC for a few days now. After reading the above posts I tried WC and can't get on. There must be a glitch somewhere. Lets just hope it all gets fixed up soon. In the meantime, it's good to see that this site is active and alive. It's fun to see a lot of participation and contributions. Keep up the good work.

It's not MSN, but rather your ISP. I have MSN, and have had no problems with WC. I use a cable hook up, and they keep their DNS files updated on a regular basis. The ISP your using is probably just a little slow in updating their files.

Just my guess.

It's weird. I got right on this morning and even made a post. Yesterday was the first time in days that I couldn't get on. I think the worst is over and we're back to normal now. Now if I could only find some fish I'll have a good day!!!

OK, guys here is what my IT guy tells me about the problem when I asked. I told him about the ISP updating the DNS files. And I quote:

Actually the issue has more to do with the TTL on his DNS entries on his providers DNS servers.

To refresh how DNS works:

1) Our DNS server gets a request.
2) If the DNS is cached, we use that IP address.
3) If the entry is not cached, we fetch it.

The cached entries have a TTL value, that is they expire out
of cache after a given time which is set by the TTL in the
DNS zone file.

Unfortunately TIES has no control over this domains TTL. So
if a change was made to his DNS and it is not reflected, it
is due to a high TTL value, hence we are still passing out
the old IP and will do so until the TTL times out.
