Member Posts: 53 | I saw a 2008 ranger 620 with a yamaha F250. I really like this boat and would like some input on the F250. I have ran merc's optis all the time so if anyone has any feedback on the yamaha's i would really appreciate it! I am thinking of making an offer. What do you guys think?

Member Posts: 17 | I've got an F225 on my 2004 Pro V 2025 and love it. Very quiet and super reliable. The only knock I've ever heard is if you really load a boat (4 or more people, full fuel and lots of gear) the Yammi "F" motors can be a bit slow out of the hole. With the correct prop the holeshot shouldn't be an issue and mine with 2 guys in tournment setup jumps out of the water and will run 52mph (this is an F225 not an F250 either). I think you'd like the combo. Good Luck! Blair

I have a 2008 621 with a 250 and absolutely love it... no finicky starting and you can talk while motoring. Kind of like in the movie Secretariat... "runs like an incredible machine". The only thing I'm slightly disappointed in is the hole shot, you'd actually be giving something up in that department to have the four stroke. My rig tops out at just over 53 mph with a SS prop and jack plate, which I would recommend.

why would you recommend a jack plate? would this increase the hole shot performance? I am reluctant with the yamaha due to the number of people that also talked about the hole shot. Is a blistering hole shot really needed?

Member Posts: 17 | In my opinion, the holeshot isn't the end of the world. As I mentioned, my Lund is pretty quick with 2 people in it and a full load. Keep in mind that a full load for me is 40 Gallons of fuel, a kicker motor, 5 series 31 batteries, 101 Terrova, a full rear livewell, etc....). with 2 people no problem. Add 3 or 4 more people behind the windshield and she slows down alot getting out of the water. I wouldn't walk away, just because of the "holeshot". Take it out for a test drive and see for yourself. You'll love how quiet it is! Blair Edited by Lucky Loon 9/1/2011 8:31 AM

Member Posts: 9 | For what it's worth. I purchased a used boat with a F200 Yamaha. Sounded great until I put it in the water. Motor had a tic. Took to Cabela's for service. Engine had 22 hours runtime. A valve lash shim left. Metal shavings everywhere. Yamaha sent new block, crank, heads, cams, pistons..... The only thing left original was the fuel system and electrical. Parts and labor was over $8000. Engine was out of warranty. YAMAHA PICKED UP THE BILL!!!! Said it had to have left the factory bad. Previous owner had to have heard it and been to lazy to bring it in. Now that's a company! Easy decision to buy Yamaha for the kicker motor I put on.
