| I've been fortunate to hear about a fish that was netted by commercial fisherman last week that I need to share. I have not seen a picture yet, but the measurement I've been told is 37.5 inches. Now this is all hear say from the most reliable of people I know and suppposedly pictures are on the way, but are we talking a new WI state record? The record is 18#s even.
I found numerous fish calculators that state a fish that big is 19.5#s.
I also heard she was release and in good health and she's massive.
I'm hoping my good friend and partner comes on this thread and posts the pictures and gives his tidbits of the story as he knows it.
I would not post this normally because I've been curcified before but this is very exciting to hear of a fish in the central system that's this big.

| A guy I work with also has been helping the netters. He saw the fish and they do have pics. As soon as I get them I will post. All he said is the eyes are as big as silver dollars and the fish was fat and healthy. They also netted a 47" Northern which was released healthy. They are up to 1,600,000 lbs rough fish taken out of the Fox river so far. They are doing a great job which will effect the whole Winnebago system. 
Dave, which lake should I fish this weekend? I have so many to choose from with ice on them!!! |

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | A good and most often accurate rule of thumb for both Walleyes and Steelhead is 10#'s for a 30 inch fish and an additional pound for every inch after. So a 37 1/2" would be 17 and 1/2 pounds. But that scale changes when the fish are females and are carrying developing eggs. Some by as much as 2 1/2 pounds more which is the very top of that egg laden scale. But seldom (if ever) very much more then that. But that still gives a 17 1/2 inch/17 pound fully mature female a possible expansive growth window to weigh as much as 19 1/2 pounds given that length. So yes, it's very possible. Sad part, or not (depending on how you feel about it) is, only fish caught with hook and line qualify for the record books. At least here in Michigan.

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Male walleye weight can actually go the other way. This was a 34 incher caught by clients of mine that only weighed a little over 13 pounds. Still a fine fish. But Older fish (like deer antler growth) can start to decline as well as they near the end of their life cycle. A buddy of mine actually caught a 30 inch male walleye that was only 7 pounds. That fish looked like a Cuban Cigar.
