With the recent cold temps the ice has almost completely healed itself. I am sure it is not very thick but non the less it is ice. The snow today actually covered it.

Hurry Up and wait.

46 and a wake up to april first.
15 and a wake up to march first.

River is chewing paths everywhere. The wednesday drive found feeder rivers full and pushing, most of them open. They have carved openings at there mouths. If these storms come in, then melt, it will open her quickly.

OK Are you ready yet?

The ice above gills is intact, kinda, from what I could see. Down from gills it is broken into sheets and is opening a spot tofish as we speak.

Fremont has shoreline ice and the lions share is wide open. It extends to gala area and then the sheets start to pile up.

Fort Fremont has sheets in front but as I said, it is sheets and they arent very thick. The current will pick up and wash them out soon. If we gat the big heavy snow it will sink the ice and we will be wide open for business.

I will drive on wednesday and let you know what the water looks like for the weekend. 1 day and a wake up to march 1st. 32 and a wake up to april 1st. Looks like you will start fishing very soon. No need to go dream any longer, JUST DO IT.

MARCH 1-2012

Wednesdays drive during the rain found a interesting fact. The ice was being eaten away. Fact is, you can launch in fremont, fish the rocks, fish between the bridges fish down past Fort Fremont and I dont know how far past chicos at this point. Up from gills is still ice. New london is ice but shakey. It will go when it rises.

IT IS FISHABLE!!

CAUTION CAUTION,

There is a ton of shelf ice and when the run off raises the river, it will break free and could trap you. I am not calling ice out, just telling that there is dangerous turf that can be fished. Last year everything ran 3 weeks behind, this spring it swings back. My notes say that by 3-17 the river will be loaded with walleye.

The river was covered in shell ice this morning. The temps are at 33degrees. I am sure after this warm up this week, the rest of the shoreline ice from gills down will give in to the rising tides. Plan next weekend. I will be on the water somewhere wednesday and give a good acount first hand from gills to the mouth.

I'm telling Mother Nature it's time for open water on the Wolf, but I did thank her for a mild winter this year.

Larry

P.S. Stacker, can you post some of those cool pictures of the river again?

NOPE, I for some reason have lost the cable to attach my camera to the computer. I am in the process of locating it and sure it will turn up. When it does I will post.

Sorry

Wish I could put pics up today. The south wind all night has all but eaten away all the shoreling ice here at Fort Fremont and the area. The down river ice I do not know about. As I said I will get a look at it tomarrow. The gills area is open but again, have not seen between redbanks and gills, but will on wednesday. The expected outcome is, that you will be able to fish the wolf on saturday.

MARCH 7th ICE OUT.

The river from Gills landing to the river mouth at Poygan is wide open. There is some shelf ice left but otherwise it is open. There are some back waters holding ice that WILL release chunks in the water so extreme caution is to used.

I will give you a heads up. It is shallow and cold. The current just started to pick up. Temp was 33.5. Sunny days will help that. There are also schools roaming on poygan so I guess that they could enter the river at any given moment. Just gotta' be there to greet them.

I will let you know when the ice above the railroad bridge at gills opens for travel.

River starting to rise. The new london graph has it spiking next week the 15th at 7.5. We seen a 2 inch increase over night here in fremont. Poygan is falling apart quickly. Just heard by boom bay that it looks like you may be able to take a boat to winneconne in a day or so.

There are ice chunks coming down so extreme caution should be exhibited, but the river from gills to the mouth and beyond is wide open.

Good luck this weekend.

If you are out and need a warm up, feel free to stop by and say hi. We have a 50% off sale on outerware and high tech long underware this weekend. Save a bundle.

OK, This is the last post. I was on the water from guths at the crop0 to the mouth on sunday and can say that most of the river ice is now gone. Sure that the sunday night rain claimed the rest. Good luvck to everyone this season.

Your welcome.

I will have a weekly fishing report that will be updated by wednesday all summer long on www.fortfremont.com and then click on the pure fishing page. We will have written as well as video reports as we can get video. We will be using our pro-staffers for reports on Muskies as well as Walleye through out wisconsin. Perch on winnebago and bluegills on the beds. Keep that in mind and on your favorites list.

Also, If you guys like this, go to www.travelfremont.com . It is the Fremont area chamber of commerce website. You can go and like them on there face book page as well. There will be some fun things coming through Fremont this summer. Fireworks are the biggest in the area and will be held on July 1st.
