Location: Rochester, MN | Walleye fishing on pool 8 has been good. I just got back from fishing this afternoon and they were biting a little more subtle today probably due to the big drop in water temps. I had 37 degrees. I just worked the jig slower and concentrated a little harder.
The dam should be your best bet right now. Ive been alternating between the dam and the black river. Pitching rip rap shorelines any combination of 1/8th to 1/4 ounce blue and/or black hair jigs from 10 feet in has worked the best for me lately. Grub tails are working good also. To illustrate this a little better for you, I caught and released one that was 25" a few days ago that came from less than 2 feet of water and she leaped in the air like a bass! It was amazing to see.
During the brighter hours of the day I like to work a little deeper 10-18 ft and fish with a jig and minnow or three way rigs. With the lack of current, boat control is not much of a problem but you should cover alot of ground to pick off scattered fish.
If the wind is from the south you have to adjust a little because you will be moving upstream due to the lack of current. Keep your eyes on your graph and work the areas where you mark fish a little longer. Sometimes all it takes is some kind of hump or rock structure to hold them at a particular spot. If you put your time in you will catch them. Let us know how you do if you get out. |
