Member Posts: 103 Location: Collins, WI | After a very long gun season I was able to harvest a nice 2 1/2 year old 8 point. This weekend was really slow for me as far as seeing deer is concerned. I blamed the full moon for the lack of deer movement, but with the appoaching weather system I couldn't wait to get back out there right after work on Monday. I set up on a hot food source. There were no trees so I tucked myself in a fenceline and went belly to the dirt with my bi-pod. After lying there for an hour my back really started to hurt, but when I glanced over to the edge of the woods I saw 2 deer headed right for me. I thought that it had to be a buck chasing a doe, why else would they be running. Sure enough here they come right to me, the buck stopped broadside at 83 yards. He stood motionless for about 2 minutes watching the doe. I could tell he wasn't a yearling but wasn't sure if I should shoot him or not. He turned his head and that's when I asked myself "why am I out here?" So I put the bead on him and squeezed the trigger. With all the smoke I didn't know if I had hit him or not. I watched him run away and he didn't look hurt. I went over and was lucky enough to find blood. I left the area and went home to get help. I tracked him for 250 yards on a few drops of blood here and there. I'm thinking if I made a clean shot though the lungs he wouldn't bleed that much because of the bullet angle. I found him in less than an hour. I'm 3 for 3 with that gun now. Next year I'm putting on a 4 1/2 * 14 power Nikon and will use it for the regular gun season. Now we need ice!!!!!!

Location: Rhinelander | Congratulatuions, trap! I like hunting the black powder rifle too, and most shots here it would do as well as any other rifle I own. I have a Hawken, and an in-line, too. I have taken lots of does with the smoke pole, but not a buck yet.
