Just for a starting reference, walleyes can see 9 times better than we can in their underwater invironment. I always use this little tid-bit of info when I get to the launch to determination if I'm even going to fish on certain days. If I can see it one foot underwater, the walleye can see it 9 feet away. Actually, not a very long distance if you think about it, as I've seen walleyes come form longer distances to grab my jig. Walleye see the Orange color spectrum the best. Then the Yellows/Chartruses and Greens next. The theory of using dark lures on dark days didn't pertain to walleyes (IMHO).
I fish stained rivers quit often during high spring water run-offs. And if the water is still quit cold, back water bays and out-of-the-current areas are best for finding spring walleyes. I seldom change the jigs I often use, except for the weight if needed. And my presentation gets a lot slower, mathodical and more precise in cloudy waters. Knowing the area like the back of your hand don't hurt. It's tough to say exactly without knowing the bottom type or other particulars about this back-bay of yours, what presentations to use. But I hope I've helped.

| Try a noisy bait.
One with loud rattles like the newer jointed Shad Raps, or maybe a high vibration bait like a sonic or zip.

Location: Manitowoc, WI | My favorite would be to pull spinner/crawler rigs over the emergent weeds, if there are any. Send that planer board out away from the boat and use stealth tactics to catch those fish. I like small glow and chartreuse blades for shallow, stained water fish. |
