The new trend these days seem to be Kayak fishing. A friend of mine has got me into 2 of his Kayaks over the last year but/and I felt like it was going to tip over from start to finish. There are many River and Bay Salmon, Walleye and Bass fishing oportunities to be taken advantage of in Michigan while using these small and light crafts, but being a LARGE MAN makes most of them top heavy and similar to the first time on ice skates for me.

I remembered a few years back owing an Otter Stealth 1200 Duck Boat. Kinda like a much more stable Kayak on steroids, that held more dead weight without ever being the least bit tippy. I sold the 1200 a few years back when I quit Duck Hunting, but after 1 trip last November on Platt Bay with my bud Kayak fishing for Coho's, I had to get another in the bigger Otter Stealth 2000 version. I have a few more things to customize on this Fat Mans Kayak and she'll be ready.

First picture is my old 1200. Other ones are the 2000 that I'm rigging for fishing.

Here's the final/final version. I may have missed my calling as a hunting/fishing boat conversion fabricator.

I need me something like that! There would be no unexplored puddle in NE Michigan!

I've taken up kayak fishing this summer and I am hooked. I have a super basic set-up right now but plan to do a full conversion in the near future.

That's a nice set up, Dan. The one problem I foresee is your rod holders and oar locks being on the same riser; you won't be able to row with lines in the water.

That is very true Viking. But I thought that part through (I think) ;-). After fabricating and mounting the raised oar and lock system, having the rod holders down where they were on the gunnel at first wasn't going to work anyways. I will more then likely be trolling via the electric motor on most occassions. And they are still mounted low enough (with the high seat) that casting, anchoring and quarter casting and/or virtical jigging is easily accomplished. The raised oar mounts are basically even mounted there for rowing comfort or in case the electric pukes out anyways, or I decide to row and drop back fish like I did for 15 years with my drift boat. In that case I would use the front holders (which are still in reach) to hold the rods and run the plugs ahead of the boat versus them being draged behind.

Thanks Mark.

Glad we were not in the Kayaks today.

The girlfriend caught her first Salmon today and it was a massive girthed monster. She casted, hooked and landed the beast with only (sometimes loud) verbal support from me. Even after she begged me to take the rod maybe 15 minutes into the fight. This HUGE 27 pound Female took almost all her line off the reel until I reached over Marys shoulder and tightened the drag to the tensel strength I thought for sure was either going to end with a break off or straightened the hooks on the crankbait.

But it turned the fish and she pumped it back to the boat like a real trooper. I then fallowed with a Monster of my own. A big male about a pound or two smaller then hers. Then I broke off 3 more Dandys before 10:00am using bobbers and spawn while fishing to close to an old rush pile that I've taken many salmon from over the years. But these fish this year are pizzed off brutes for sure.

USCG 450 pound Capacity. But I occassionally had a few more then that in the smaller one with no trouble on ponds and marshes.

This is where I bought mine and it's $200.00 to $300.00 cheaper then any place else. Remember it's the Stealth 2000 model. And I got the weight capacity wrong in the above post. It's 550 pounds. I believe shipping and home/driveway delivery was $90.00 to Michigan.
