i just troll with ap on. don't need i pilot or anything, just ap. the terrova 80 with ap is discontinued but i can still find it. is it worth the extra couple 100 or is the pd 70 good enough? have read of terrova self deploying while running? just looking at power and battery life difference.

Yes, well worth it, even without the i-pilot or i-link.

The Terrova is a great unit and I would not fish without it. Never heard of self deployment issues. Auto pilot is a must for trolling in my opinion. Locking in god coordinates becomes second nature. Well worth the money.

I LOVE my Ipilot. I wouldn't troll without it. I use it to steer the boat, but the important piece is recording tracks.

When I'm trolling structure, I can record a track, and replay it to go over the same structure. This is completely different than open water trolling in a general direction.

I have the 70lb V2 powerdrive with Ipilot. My next will be the 80lb terrova with Ipilot, and maybe Ipilot Link.

Terrova deploys much more easily than Power drives do...and that alone is worth having one- IMHO.
All of the various styles can deploy when on plane...IF NOT STOWED properly. (I have done it with all of them)... LOL!
